Wedding Woes

Has anyone ever

Dyed a piece of clothing? I have a cute beige-y ruffled cardigan, and I think I'd like it better if it were black or grey. I'm assuming you can buy dye at a fabric store, right? Any tips?

what is it made of?  some fabrics take dye better than others.  cotton, yes; synthetics, no.

You can buy it at the grocery store.  My sister used to dye things all the time.   She isn't afraid of messes like I am.

I've dyed some black stuff black, but that probably doesn't really count.

Cotton & rayon, hmo. I think it'll dye alright.

yep. you can get RIT dye at walmart, walgreens, kmart, and even many grocery stores.  Easy peasy.

I recommend dying in a sink or tub vs. the washing machine, esp. for just one small item.

I dyed all my couch cushion covers. For dark colors, you'll want to double the dye to really make sure you get a good, even, dark coverage.

Bacon - You mean double the dye and water in one sitting, or dye the item twice?

I think it's double the dye, IIRC. If you google, you can find better tips; that was on the side of the dye box.
