Did I pick it up from the restaurant? If yes, no. Let's be real the chick just handed me the bag.

If they come to me, than yes.

I never tip for carry out. I tip for delivery or sit down.

You don't tip the kitchen when you tip for delivery or sit down (unless they're split but you don't know what they do). Why tip now? There is no additional service

If I'm going in to pick it up? No, I don't tip.

I rarely do that anyway, but if I'm going inside to get it and all they did was throw it in a bag for me, why should they get a tip?

Because the sucker prepping the bag is the waitress who is paid crap, I round up and sometimes leave a dollar.

But that assumes someplace like 'outback' or 'applebees' nt someplace like 'chineese takeout place' or 'starbucks'

And I do carryout of ANY kind make 3x a year.

If I'm feeling generous I tip a dollar or two. My years of waiting tables taught me that that dollar means a lot more to a server or hostess than it does to me.

I don't feel guilty for not tipping on carryout, though.

Not for carryout. Every place I worked, carryout orders were handled by hosts/management - IOW, people who weren't making $2/hr. It's completely unnecessary to tip them. If you feel you must tip someone, go find a server who's working for tips.

I leave a dollar or 2. Makes for quick service going forward.

If the bartender/hostess/waitress gives it to me  I leave a buck or so.  Especially if there were salads with dressing and rolls and what not.  If it's a chinese place no.

Nope, except for a family-run Italian restaurant that I worked at when I was in college and they pretended to mix up an order every night I worked so that I would have food for dinner and lunch the next day. They will always get a $5 tip from me when I pick up there.

there was one restaurant that i used to frequent where I'd give them a buck or 2 - DH and I normally went for sit-down meals, but I had a slight obsession with their homemade salsa and chips, so i used to stop every week or 2 and get a bunch to take home. In those cases the hostess would go prep the food while I waited, and I always gave her something.
