Wedding Woes

::mrsconn & ilove::

I'm sold on going to Indy for a long weekend with DH and DD.   I just have to sell DH on the idea.   I'm trying to put all the info together to present to DH and am looking for hotels.   Can you help?

We want to go to the Children's Museum and the zoo.  And spend some time downtown, going to the White River park and just general downtown walking around.   We may possibly go to the art museum or the American Indian museum.

So I'd like to stay downtown, but can't find the room type that I'm looking for.  Ideally, I'd like to get a room that is a suite that has a door seperating the bedroom from the "living" room.   That way, DH and I don't have to go to sleep at the same time as DD.

I guess we'll have to go out to the suburbs.  I remember that Carmel and Keystone are nice areas, but where else would be a good place to look?   Any parts of town that we should definitely stay away from?

Any hotel recs?   Any other advice?
TIA!!!

  • the Marriott Residence Inn where I normally stay in Houston has 2BR suites that have doors separating the bed from the living room area. You could try contacting the local Marriotts and see what they have available. (I don't normally stay at other hotel chains, but when I have, it was always in a room/suite where everything was in one room.
  • the children's museum is Made of Win!  The zoo is nice too.  They are a bit on the pricey side, but i would make a point of seeing the children's museum.

i haven't been to the native american museum (Eiteljorg), yet, but i hear it's pretty cool.  You can also catch a minor leauge baseball game in the same area near White Water State Park.

I don't have any hotel recs, but if you wanna to a GTG with our respective baloney loafs, i'm up for it.
  • There is a Residence Inn on the Canal Downtown Indy.  It's really nice.  There's also one in Carmel, IN, which is about 20 min directly north of the downtown area.  There's a Sheraton at Keystone at the Crossing that has suites as well.

    My rec. would be:
    1. Residence Inn downtown
    2. Residence Inn Carmel
    3. Sheraton @ Keystone

  • Thanks!!!!!!!!!!    I'd love to have a GTG, so I'll let you know the dates we're going as soon as we make a decision.   :)
    I'm getting excited!
  • Oh yeah, the Candlewood on White River Parkway would be good too.  That's very close to the Zoo.

The Children's Museum is north of downtown by about 5-7 minutes.  I would NOT recommend staying close to it though.  It's not in a good neighborhood, sadly.
  • Damn - the Residence Inn on the Canal is pretty much booked for the rest of the summer.    Looks like a great place, though.
  • Oh and my restaurant rec for downtown is BARcelona Tapas.  It's reasonably priced and I really like their food.
  • Ohhhh...   we love tapas, but I'm sure DH will refuse to go there because he hates Barcelona.   (It's a soccer thing.   He's weird.)
  • St. Elmo's is an Indy institution.  It's pricey and I've heard the food is excellent.  I've never eaten there.  http://www.stelmos.com/

There's the Rathskeller, which is a German restaurant. http://www.rathskeller.com/
