Wedding Woes

Wait, I have to WORK at it?

Oh, Stephenie Meyer. Really?

On writing the next Twilight book:
"I know that’s what everyone cares about.  I also know that the right answer would be for me to say “Oh yah, it’s done! And it’ll be out next month!”  But that’s not true.  It’s also not true that I’ve got a ton of work done on it, and that’s what I’m working on.  What’s true is that I’m really burned out on vampires.  And, I don’t want to write it badly.  So I want to wait until I’m excited about the material again, and I’m excited about Edward, and that it’s something that’s motivating.  You know, when a story is keeping me up at night, and I’m waking up at 4 am in the morning and thinking ‘Yes! That is what is what should happen in this moment!’  Then that is when I can write with happiness! So, right now it feels like homework… it really does.  And when things feel like homework they go very, very slowly for me."

Bolding mine. FFS, really? Yes, because all the rest of the writers in the world are always on fire with inspiration every second.

Team Grant. Because not only am I a grown-ass woman, but I don't mind slogging away when I'm not "excited about the material".

but baby-lit isn't supposed to be WORK...
isn't a job just fun and rainbows?
  • It must be difficult to stay motivated when you are only making $1M per page.

  • Well, when wild success is handed to you for the first 4 mediocre novels you put out I can understand where the concept of writing being work would be lost on you.

The more I learn about Stephenie Meyer the less I like about her.

  • Hell, she just needs to read Stephen King talking about writing.  He doesn't even necessarily disagree with her, but what he does talk about is that he sits down every day at the same time to slog away for X amount of hours a day, no matter what.  He treats it like his, oh I don't know, JOB?
  • Varuna, that's it exactly. I get not being excited; I get feeling like everything is crap; but I also get *doing it anyway*. And I don't even get paid for it. But because I'd like to be, I'd better set up my habits now.
