Wedding Woes

saltwater drinking coirker

might be buying a house in SWITZERLAND.  This would be her freaking view. From her bedroom.

Her H is swiss. His parents live next door and are helping out with the purchase. They are also landlords and will handle the landlording/property management for one part they are planning to convert to an apartment and rent out to help cover the costs.

The whole inside is renovated, except for the attic, which doesn't even have insulation. (Seriously, the first pics I saw were of the attic space. It made me think it was a carrann house.  But the rest of it is very recently renovated.)

Gorgeous.  IDK what I'm doing wrong. I think I live frugally, but maybe I can live with the cheap paper towels and toilet paper if it means I can have a gorgeous, ginormous second home.

Carrann does not concern herself with attics. It's basements with standing water that really her her going.

I'm thinking I need to let go of the entire home ownership dream. That, among other things, does not seem to be in the cards for us.

Family money, yo.  Everytime I start to think "what am I doing WRONG!" I remember that the people I know who are doing so much better got A LOT of help from their parents.  If my parents had given me $100K for a house downpayment, I'd be doing a lot better than I am, too.

OH man, if only I'd skipped college and kept the money!

Yes, zsa. Also, H and I retarded ourselves by staying in school until we were almost 30. If you start your life at 22, you can have more by the time you are 30.

True, Min, but you also get to make it up quickly with more earning power.  I mean, plenty of people who graduated with me were making $35k/yr during the 4 years I was in college spending money. It was a lot then, but they are pretty much stuck there for their whole lives.

My parents have some money. Not a ton, but some. And they helped a lot, just not with houses. (They do give us a big check every Xmas earmarked for home improvements - that did pay for half of our ridiculously large deck.)

IDK. Our parents are still too young to be giving us all of their money. They will need it for another 20 or 30 years. As much as I like money, I do like our parents more. :)

DG, remember that woman on our local who was something like 22 with two kids and she and her husband were making huge $$ doing house flips and seemed to be just swimming in cash (and eye make-up)?  I wonder what happened to her.

I think all of the house flippers aren't doing so great right now.

It was back when everyone and their brother was flipping houses and I knew a few people who had already lost their shirts doing it.  People were expressing concern and she was all "No worries!  We can't fail!"

I vaguely remember that. Maybe HIO would know. SHe keeps up with the OL people.

Confession: I am considering going to an OL GTG next month. Not sure yet, though. I will only know 2 people there, at most.

I think you should go. You need non-kid related stuff to do for yourself.

Yes. Do something that doesn't have to do with kids or work. Some purely social and just for you.
