Wedding Woes

:: pmb ::

my mother is driving me crazy.  she is using the same "i'm a foreigner!" nonsense that your mil uses.

mom: you have to be sure you have all the supplies you need before the baby comes!  you can't be going out for supplies when the baby is here.

me: really?  because YOU will be here and i'm guessing that i would ask you to go out.

mom: i don't know where the stores are in your neighborhood!

me: i am looking out the window right now, and they are all clearly labeled.  drugstore, grocery store, gas station, mall entrance ...

mom: i don't know your neighborhood!  i'm not from around there.

me: well, welcome to earth.

and you know she's lived in the united states longer than she lived in korea.  i have a feeling i will be making good use of amazon prime and not sending my poor immigrant mother out among the white people.

  • DED. If I - the most directionally-challenged, anxiety-about-new-places-suffering chick I know - can figure out your area, I have full confidence that your mother can as well.

  • My mom would be the opposite. "Don't buy anything until the baby comes, that way you'll have to spend all your time for the first 6 months shopping and I'll have to watch the baby for you."

    Of course, being the shopaholic she is, she would have already purchased everything I need to keep at her house, thereby making it easier for her to babysit while I shop. Then, once I got back to pick up the baby, she'd snatch my receipts, declare I spent too much, and offer to sell me her extras.
  • HA! Irritating, but funny.

    My MIL tried this on DH. 2 summers ago she asked him to go with her to the airport because she had "no idea" how to get there. Really? You've lived here for over 30 years and you don't know how to get to FLL airport?
