Wedding Woes

Jury duty selection isn't what I thought it would be

Since I'm a jury duty virgin, I assumed it would be different.

8:00 - We had to be there
8:05 - Begin 15 minute movie that was 30 years old about how we represent the entire state and we're such awesome people, yadda, yadda.
8:20 - A guy came in and explained that there was only one case scheduled for the whole week (which he said was rare), what type of case it was and how long it was expected to last.
8:35-9:00 - Break, for some reason.
9:05 - A woman came in and called off 14 juror numbers.  They took those people away.
9:10 - Another woman came and dismissed the rest of us.

There were supposed to have been 90 people there (it didn't seem like that many in the courtroom, but I could have misjudged).  I was expecting it to take hours to interview each person individually.

Oh well.  I guess I did my civil duty?

I got a letter in the mail about jury duty. It wasn't a letter telling me to come serve; it was a demographic survey. So, if a white lady in her 30's gets caught for butchering her H, I guess they'll call me to serve as a jury of her peers?

At first I was annoyed at the idea, but  then I remembered how I just voted (and tried to get other people to vote) for that increase in fees for our sanitation services...you can't have one right without the other duty. Hee, I said duty.

I had to fill out a short survey and mail it within 7 days of receiving the summons, but I guess I didn't think about it being enough info to determine anything, you know?  Maybe.

Here, you have to stay all day.  All day!  No matter what.  And I'm never called b/c of my employer, so I just get to sit and sit and sit.

While I am exicted at any chance to miss work, I imagine the local courthouse to be all gross and germy.
