Wedding Woes

Speaking of helicopter parents, AP for fun.

A coworker had a baby end of last year. She is a baby wearing, co sleeping, cloth diapering, breastfeeding, APer for life kinda of person. Love her, but we all have the feeling she is taking it a smidge far, and we are all crunchy kind of people.

Baby is 10 months old, has only been able to sit up for last 2 months, isn't crawling yet, but he does scoot some and  hates being away from Mom because all baby knows is her chest.

Baby went for swimming lessons recently. Apparently Dad took baby into the pool and Baby not knowing anyone except Mom and Dad, started crying when swim teacher took Baby for some water time. Mom told us she was about jump in the pool, kick the teacher and take "my baby back." She said Dad was being too polite and should have taken Baby back because Baby obviously didn't like the teacher.

  • Oh yeah, that's perfectly normal. *eyeroll*

  • Ohfer - At least I know Bacon will be taking over the world, because she'll be one of the select few who knows how to make a decision all by herself.

  • Oh wow.  That's taking it way too far.  She's quite the case.
  • The thing about swimming and the mom's reaction sounds nutty.  I'll give the baby the benefit of the doubt and assume separation anxiety on this one, but the mom should be able to handle it better.

I'm giving them a pass on motor development.  Maddie is slow on gross motor milestones, and although the nurse at her 12 mo. appointment insinuated that it's because I carry her everywhere, neither DH nor I do that.  (Nor did the nanny, who was still around at the time.)  It happens.
  • Um....yeah. That isn't healthy for anyone.

  • yeah, the coldness, wetness and noise had nothing to do with the crying.

  • Andplusalso, that's right around the age that kids go on Stranger Danger alert.  DD won't go to just anyone right now, and I'm okay with that.  I don't force her on people, but in that situation, I would've let the teacher keep her and let DD cry.

    yeah...that's a touch of crazycakes.

(I would have that urge if I was at the pool, I can say w/o any hesitation.  But I have a water-phobia and I will NOT be the one taking Buffy to swim lessons--I just can't do it.  The Mr. gets that job because he can manage not to be crazycakes and cause panic attacks.  And I will teach her about spiders so that she doesn't run screaming every time she sees one.  Look how that evens out :-P)
