Wedding Woes

We had a schitty weekend - literally

Long story short, our sewer main backed up into one of our bathrooms in the basement Saturday night.

We had to have a plumber come yesterday to unclog the sucker.  The cause?  A damn plastic toy.  We didn't see exactly which toy, as it broke and the suction took it away too quickly.

And there were some tree roots as well, so we'll have more clogging in the future if we don't take the tree down.  However, 1) we have three large trees in the area of the sewer and because we are on the corner, we don't know if the sewer runs to the side of the house, or the front of the house, so we don't know which tree it is, and 2) we love our huge trees - they give us a lot of shade and they're pretty.

    Ugh, that's crappy (hehe)

1- They should be able to run a snake and hear where the sewer runs.  I did this in my first house.  We found some cracked drain tiles and a curve in the line.

    2. You might be able to use a product that you flush once a month to keep the roots at bay.
  • I'm sorry.  That sounds awful.
  • Gross!  :(
  • This is what my nightmares are made of.  Do you have to replace flooring or drywall?

  • When my youngest sister was little, she used to love to flush all manner of things. It was a nightmare. You would think by now there would be some gadget you could use to prevent this type of thing.

No, we didn't have to replace anything.  The hole in the ground is in one of the downstairs bathrooms, so it just got on the floor in there.  I disinfected the crap (hee) out of it yesterday after the guy left.
