Here's the save the date I am sending out. To save money, I just made one in PP. It feels like its missing something, what could I do in the background to reduce the white space?

hmmm. While that's a great picture of Dave, I think you are too far away, so it's not very balanced. Maybe start with getting a closer picture of you, or a picture of you two together (like the one in your avatar?). Then you could do something like this:

Their background is also white and boring, but you don't really notice it so much.

oh, that's cute, I like that... I think I'll make a second draft and give my FI final vote. He loved the original one, but I am curious if he would like a more traditional, cute one if given the chance to see one.

I agree with PP I think there should be a picture of you guys together. To me it look like you don't like each other.

Agreed on the picture(s). An don't sell PowerPoint short - It's not an ideal tool, but you can do a lot with it. Find STDs you like online, and you can probably come close to duplicating that look in ppt. Look at other stationery, too - birth announcements, birthday/retirement/wedding/baptism/wine tasting/whatever invitations. You're just looking for style ideas.

ok, I'm having a hard time with Power Point. It keeps adding a white border around the slide.

I understand that you need an edge-to-edge compatible printer, but I seriously doubt anyone is going to print out the save the dates. I just want the white border to go away in PDF format.
