Why do people always look shorter than they are, or rather, why do people always feel taller than they are?
I ask this because there's this woman who works in the same building as me that is about the size of my thumb. I'm not a tall woman, but when I stand near her, I feel like Zdeno Chara. She comes about up to the bottom of my nose. But one time I was walking in to work behind her, thinking that I was Gulliver and she was a Lilliputian, and I caught a glimpse of myself and her in a reflective window, and I'm maybe an inch and a half, two inches taller. Tops. And we were both in the same plane of focus, too - it's not like I was off in the distance or something. And I was making fun of this one friend I have who is similarly tiny, and some third party was like "um, you're not one to talk; you're barely taller than her", though from my perspective, I towered half a head over her.
So, what's up with that? Do I have crazy Tall-O-Vision, or is this a thing?
