Wedding Woes

An odd and random question (but not a gross one)

Why do people always look shorter than they are, or rather, why do people always feel taller than they are?

I ask this because there's this woman who works in the same building as me that is about the size of my thumb.  I'm not a tall woman, but when I stand near her, I feel like Zdeno Chara.  She comes about up to the bottom of my nose.  But one time I was walking in to work behind her, thinking that I was Gulliver and she was a Lilliputian, and I caught a glimpse of myself and her in a reflective window, and I'm maybe an inch and a half, two inches taller.  Tops.  And we were both in the same plane of focus, too - it's not like I was off in the distance or something.  And I was making fun of this one friend I have who is similarly tiny, and some third party was like "um, you're not one to talk; you're barely taller than her", though from my perspective, I towered half a head over her.

So, what's up with that?  Do I have crazy Tall-O-Vision, or is this a thing?

I don't know. I'm not taller than anyone but Bacon. And that's getting iffier every day.

I feel like I'm taller than I am 5'3" if that makes any sense.  I think it's our view of ourselves and self awareness.

Honestly I think it has to do w/ how rarely some people are taller than others.

I've found that short people feel VERY towering over other shorter people.  while those folks who are 'taller' often don't feel that way so much.

It's even worse when you're taller than EVERYONE and see that reflection in the window.  Ok, not everyone, but it seems like it. :)

Everyone at work thought I was short/average.  Then I pointed out that the other women in the office always wore heels while I was in work boots.

So was she wearing high heels that day?

She wasn't.  She was wearing flats, just like I was.

Though, I will say that people think I'm taller than I am. I don't know if it's my horizontal size or the fact that I'm often loud and forceful, but I seem to be able to command more attention than, I don't know, short people *should*.
