Oh, FFS -- More Work Drama

This is absolute BS.

So, Diva's paralegal left last Friday.  She basically gave him a big ole middle finger and stormed out.  They divvyed up her work between me and another paralegal, R.

R has absolutely no experience in this field.  He also doesn't really want experience in this field.  He also doesn't want to try and learn this field, while working for Diva.  B/c Diva isn't going to be (no matter what he says) supportive during this learning curve and R knows it.

R is putting in his notice today.

FML.

    NOT COOL!

Also may I say that R is a big baby if he doesn't put on his big girl panties and muddle through.  Lame.

  • O, I can see both sides of the argument for R.  Diva is what he is and I can see not bending over backwards for him.  It's just that I like the rest of the people I work for and with, plus I'm the only one working right now.

Especially since the situation has been described as "in flux" and we don't know if they're going to replace his FT staff or just keep it divided between us.

I'm just trying to remain upbeat and positive. It's not the end of the world, it's just a bump in the road.
  • I know nothing about how a firm operates,  but WHY, WHY, WHY does no one realize that Diva is the problem?  They're just going to let paralegal after paralegal quit?

Is Diva a partner?  Is that the problem?

Still, that doesn't mean there should be shitty working conditions.  Have they ever been sued because of Diva being such an asshole?

Ugh, V.  That's such crap.  Is there no one that can help you? Be a buffer?  Tell Diva he needs to eff off?

  • Does Diva have a lot of staff turnover?  Does this happen to him a lot?

Is there anyone that can stick up for you and let Diva know you will not become his personal staff person, and that you are only helping until he hires someone?  That you have other work to do in addition to this sudden increase from him?

    Ugh.  This sucks.
  • Diva is partner and is a money maker.

Yes, he has high staff turnover.  Money maker is why they tolerate it.  Plus we have an office manager that is not really an advocate for the staff.

I think/hope I have some buffers here.  We'll see how this all shakes out.
  • Oh, I know V.  I just think it's strange that splitting one person's workload for azzhat means quitting is the answer.  Because as far as I know, that's not the answer, and doesn't bode well for that person's conflict management skills.

bug eyed.  That sucks and I hope you can make it through unscathed.

Is paralegal work that easy to find that he could just up and quit last minute?

Your response makes no sense! So a person quit and now that persons work has been divided up between other employees on what planet is that BS? Also paralegals are a dime a dozen, why would a firm whether he is a partner or not fire a lawyer because a paralegal or in other words a secretary can't handle the work load?
