The good: liked the company, liked the position, really liked the people I met with. One of the women reminded me of BFF, and we really hit it off. She grew up like half a mile from where DH & I lived before we moved down here. She interned literally next door to the first company I worked for. Two people I worked with at another job work there now, and I ran into one of them. Close to my house--it took me 20 min. to get home in rush hour traffic.
The bad: the last guy I met with, my would-be boss, casually mentioned that there are two other key positions that are a higher priority than the one I interviewed for. He said they're working on filling those first, but they hope to figure out what they're looking for in the position I interviewed for sometime in the fourth quarter. For normal people who don't live in quarters, that's Oct.-Dec. He said they're still trying to decide how much experience they're looking for (read: how much they're willing to pay) and they interviewed one other candidate a month ago but they're hoping to get some more people in before they make a decision.
I suppose this is valid, but I wanted to ask WTF he was doing calling me in for three hours of interviews when they basically haven't figured out what they want yet and have no immediate plans to hire anyone. Was my email campaign that effective? I like to think I'm good, but it's hard to believe that I'm so persuasive that people fall under my spell and do whatever I tell them to. It would be nice, but no.
I was sort of disappointed. I'm not writing them off, but I was really hoping they would be my ticket out of here in the next few weeks. On the plus side, my hair looked fabulous. Those of you who voted for keeping my hair appointment last week were 100% correct. They should have made me an offer on the basis of my hair alone.
