My brother's wedding was really lovely, so I unfortunately don't have a lot of side-eye worthyness for you guys. I do have 2 mom stories and a grandparent story, though.
Creampuffs:
My sister, 2 brothers, and grandparents were driving in together on Friday afternoon. Mom had left detailed instructions on what they had to bring with them, which included creampuffs for the dessert trays at the RD. There was a specific bag of them that had to be packed in the cooler a specific way. No joke. My sister was put In Charge.
But, she was running late from work, and my grandparents were all in a tizzy over whether 8 hours would be enough time to make the 4 hour trip. So they packed up the creampuffs, and when my sister got to the house they herded her straight to the car. So my sister, who is easily annoyed says fine let's go. If the creampuffs are ruined it's your fault not mine.
Unsurprisingly, when they arrived, it was discovered that my grandparents had packed the Wrong Creampuffs, and now we wouldn't have enough. My mom then spent the next 45 minutes trying to find someone to blame for this disaster, rather than bother finding a way to fix it. You would have thought the flowergirl's head had just landed in her lap.
Meanwhile, it was my job to go to the hall where the dinner was being held while everyone else was at the rehearsal, and--you guessed it--put the cream puffs on the dessert trays. I had already been instructed to place one creampuff for each person on the trays. So, I tried to calm my mother down and told her I'd just halve the number of creampuffs and we'd be fine. The conversation went as follows:
Me - This is not as big a deal as you think it is. There are plenty of other deserts. I'll just halve the number of creampuffs on each tray and no one will even notice.
Mom - No, we still have enough creampuffs to have one for each person.
Me - So there's not a problem.
Mom - Yes there is.
Me - ...
Mom - I wanted you to put out 2 creampuffs for each person.
Me - You told me 1.
Mom - But I meant 2.
Me - So what you're telling me is, I would have gone and set up EXACTLY PER YOUR INSTRUCTIONS, had a ton of leftovers, and you would have come in and had a fit because I didn't read your mind.
Mom - Probably.
For the record, the trays were hardly large enough for the creampuffs we did have, and they did not all get eaten.
This story ended up longer than I expected, so I'll put the other 2 in a new post.
