Wedding Woes

I have a long, boring birth story for you

I had a doc appt last Thursday.  It was my last appt no matter what because I had a c/s scheduled for the 18th if DD2 didn't come before then.  That would have put me at 41 weeks - the absolute latest my doc wanted me to get to because of the GD.  Well the appt was uneventful - a fingertip dilated with a "really far back there" cervix.  Bummer.

That night my water broke at 11:35pm.  The bed was soaked.  Contractions started within 10 minutes and were immediately intense but not regular/timeable.  I called my mom
to come be with the kids.  My parents live 90 minutes away, so DH suggested we go back to sleep for a while.  Yeah.  Ok.  Apparently he knows nothing about me and my inability to relax.  I tried to lay down for a while, but I just had so much running through my mind about what I should be doing to get ready.  So I got up and showered and got some things ready in a bag while DH got some more sleep.  My mom and sister arrived in record time and we got to the hospital at 2:30am.  I was admitted once the swab came back positive for amniotic fluid.

My blood pressure was high so I had to remain in triage for extended monitoring.  The contractions were 2-3 minutes apart and lasted 90+ seconds.  I was still only 70% effaced and a fingertip dilated.  We got into a room around 4:45am and was checked again at 6:30am.  "Maybe 2cm and that's being generous" and my cervix hadn't budged.  My blood pressure had also climbed higher.  My water had been broken for 7 hours and I knew my doctor wanted me delivered by hour 12.  The fact that I wasn't dilating after 7 hours combined with my blood pressure issues (which scared me, honestly) and I decided my vbac, as much as I wanted it, wasn't worth the risk.  My spinal was placed at 6:55am and the c/s started at 7:10.

Lucy Lauren was born at 7:22am, weighed 8lb 15oz and was 21 inches long.  DH go to cut the cord again, which was cool.  He went with Lucy back to recovery while I got put back together.  The c/s went well and I was very much awake for the whole thing (I was really out of it during Leela's birth).  My doctor told me that Lucy was in the exact same position as Leela and that was the reason I wasn't dilating.

Recovery has seemed better this time around.  I'm not in as much pain as I remember having the first time.  I had my 23 staples removed yesterday and the incision is looking good.  My GD is gone and I can eat my favorite foods again, although they're not even appealing to me anymore.

Both kids are in love with Lucy and want to hold her all the time.  I know it has only been a week, but Leela seems to be adjusting well and we haven't seen any signs of jealousy.  I make sure to tend to Leela's needs (if I can) before Lucy's so she doesn't feel like I forgot about her and we spend alone time together every day.

DH is home with me this week and my mom will come stay with us next week when he goes back to work.  I can't lift Leela (or anything heavier than Lucy) for two full weeks, so I'll still need help with her.

Here's a pic of the first night at home:

    YAY for sweet healthy babies!

Sorry you didn't get your VBAC. But that did sound pretty scary with the BP and stuff. yikes.

and thanks for sharing the story. I've been eagerly waiting for it!

:)  Naming this baby was much easier than the first.  I came up with Lucy, DH came up with Lauren, and we both liked each others' choice.  No debating at all.

she's adorable. i was showing DK the family pic from FB last night. he likes Leela's name.

did they give you anything for the BP or did it just help push you to the c/s faster?

the BP meds i was on with the preeclampsya were awful. (it was magnesium-something-or-other) and gave me a migraine while i was in labor. They also made Wolverine a little sleepy for her first couple of days.

They didn't give me anything for the BP.  Every time they checked it, the nurses would give each other a concerned look because it was higher.  DH and I decided it wasn't worth pre-e (or worse) so we scratched the vbac.  I've heard horror stories about the magnesium sulfate and I couldn't imagine going through that AND enduring a labor that was going nowhere.

it probably was magnesium sulfate - that's what i was thinking, just not 100% .

they started it when they induced me, so i was on it for 30ish hours until they did the c/s. - hence the reason for the stadol and demerol (for the migraine), and the fact that i didn't know that the first epidural didn't take until my demerol wore off. that stuff was awful.
