Also---Hulu Plus vs. Netflix

Are these ENTIRELY different animals?  I signed up for HuluPlus thinking it would be great, got it all hooked up and on my tv...and then.  *womp womp* I didn't find much I liked.  Granted, I didn't spend HOURS perusing...but I wasn't entirely impressed.

Please tell me the differences...

Re: Also---Hulu Plus vs. Netflix

  • the differences are that Hulu Plus is great if you're actively trying to keep up with TV shows that are currently airing...Netflix is awesome if you have a whole collection of already released on DVD shows and movies that you like watching.

If I had to choose between the two I would always choose Netflix - I feel as if in the long run they have more of a full collection to offer (not just the last 5 episodes that aired of a TV show). Netflix also has a lot of harder to find movies (in my opinion). To be fair though I've never tried to watch movies on hulu, so it's possible they're great for that.

I do have both services and plan to continue getting both (the cost seems almost negligible to me).

  • I have both, and I like both for different reasons. Hulu is great for the current TV shows, and Neflix is great for having the past seasons of shows, as well as good movies.
If I could only pick one it would be netflix.

    What she said.

I recently got Hulu + just so I could watch the daily show on the real tv (while chillin' on the couch) instead of on the computer. Hulu + has the season-to-date of many current shows. If you have cable and a DVR, you don't get much from Hulu +. Especially because it still has commercials that you can't skip. If you are streaming-only, though, then Hulu + has some benefits.

For $8/month, it's worth it to me, especially since cable was $90/month. So I can add amazon streaming ($75/year with prime, which also has tons of other benefits) AND Netflix streaming ($8/month) AND Hulu + ($8/month) and still save $67.75/month.

  • See, we already have cable, so I'm thinking I'll nix the Hulu+ and get some Netflix action.

<div>I found all of the shows I wanted to watch up -to-date things on were on regular Hulu (meaning you don't have to pay for it at all, it's already there).  I had thought that it would have a better selection and found myself really unsatisfied with it.  We didn't keep it past the 30 day free trial.</div>
  • You only get a free WEEK trial now, V.  I feel completely taken.  *dramatic sniffle*

  • We have both, but that is due to the fact like DG, we don't have cable and we run both through the Roku for all our TV watching. Hulu+ is for the current shows (expect CBS, those lamewads don't stream except from their website) since we don't have a DVR. We use netflix for older shows, movies, etc.

And for the occasional show we can't get on either, Amazon video tends to have it on a pay per episode basis, and we can also run it through the Roku. The only ones I can think we get this way are Archer and Avatar.
  • I would love to do what you do, DG.  Our only issue is that we wouldn't be able to watch live stuff, mostly sports.
