Wedding Woes

At what age...

Would you allow your child (hypothetical or real) on FB and Twitter?  Supervised or unsupervised?

Re: At what age...

  • Between 0 and 12, hell no. Not at all. Between 12 and 15, with supervision. Over 16, with occassional surprise checks, but generally w/out supervision.

    ..
  • FB: 13 - highly supervised.
Twitter: 18 - nobody needs to know where she is and what she's thinking 24/7.

  • What Ww said.

  • I'm pretty sure by the time I have to worry about this Twitter and Facebook willl have been replaced with mind-reading software or something.

But if I had a hypothetical teenager now, I think I would say high school, but with the caveat that I'm friended and not placed on any privacy setting.

I'm going to go with AF.  Cell phones and text plans at 16.  I also believe those are privileges so as any part of grounding FB would go away.

Part of my friend's kids issues are with FB and texting bullies.

  • Not until HS, and I would be checking.

  • Middle or high school, but I'd definitely wait until she asks. And I don't know that I'd go super-heavy on supervision, but we keep the computer in a public space, anyway, and she doesn't use it now (for PBS Kids) without one of us in the room. I don't foresee that changing until she's 18.

  • DD is 17 am her friend on FB so generally can see what she says. But I do know her password and if she ever gave me reason I'd look, never had to t hough.

DH and I have had multiple conversations about DD not having a computer in her room until she goes off to college.  Middle school is about when I would okay FB.  Maybe Twitter.

BFF's daughter is in 5th grade and just joined FB.  She and BFF are FB friends.
