Wedding Woes

probably the dumbest question inside.

do you have trouble pairing your socks after laundry?

i don't know why i even bother to buy different types of sweat socks. i should just toss them all and buy 3 or 4 packs of the same type of socks so i don't have to pull out a dozen different socks before finding a pair that matches. it's a real time waster.

  • Yes, where do those suckas hide.

  • YES!  DH has gone on a "we must ONLY buy socks with defining marks" kick because he was so tired of the wrong socks being paired together.

This is pretty much only his problem  because I rarely wear socks and almost all of my socks are patterned.

I only buy one style of white socks for each person in my house.  The kids have some fun socks, but they don't care if they match.

A stupid sock story:  My mom took magic markers and wrote our first initial on our white socks.  Then she'd dump socks into the appropriate basket to match ourselves.  My dad wore blue and black socks.  Even though he was colorblind she wouldn't match them.  So, he would pay us a nickel a pair.

And now I realize I won't be able to use this method.  Guess they will each get a color.

  • I would, if H made me match his socks, but he doesn't like how I do it, so.

All my socks are patterened. Bacon gets the same kind or patterns.

  • We have a basket in our bedroom for the lonely socks- eventually their mates show up.

  • It is such a pita with 5 of us.

I have started to get rid of old socks and only buy one brand each for DH, son and I.  The girls have colored/striped/polka dotted/character socks, so it's harder to keep track of theirs.  I never got in to the habit of using a bag for the little ones' socks, so they get lost a lot.

i feel like i've been so lazy to not thrown out the mismatched socks and just buy new. we do the same thing as ali, keep all the socks in a laundry bag and match them up as needed. it's a really bad system.
  • Wolverine's socks disappear all of the time. I have a pile in her room of the singles.
I finally have DK trained to throw away his socks with big holes in them - he does a liot of the laundry since i will just get rid of his stuff when i sort.

my mom did what 6's mom did...and my sisters just wore socks w/ my initals.  Except my older sister, who would change the D into an R by adding 2 lines to the bottom.  I never had any socks and I quit wearing them.

Ours get eaten by 'Linty", the lint deamon who lives behind the dryer.

Also, putting all of the kid's into the lingerie bag = genius.  Except it means I have to have a bag in her hamper at all times and remember to do it..so it never happens.
  • We also have a pile of lonelys.  Except I never make an effort to check the pile, I just throw more on top.

I just threw our lonelys away before xmas.  I already have another small pile started.
  • I have a pile of lonelys as well.  Where the hell do they go?

we usually put lonelies back into the wash, but hat only happens when we actually take the time to pair the socks after we do laundry.

I am constantly amazed at the sock loss stories. I think I've lost one sock in 10 years. Including baby socks, because hello! Lingerie bags! (<-- read about that on the bump. So it's good for something every once in a while.) I hang a bag on their laundry hamper; dirty socks go directly in the bag, while dirty clothes go in the hamper. Now they do it themselves. I keep a spare bag to immediately put on the hamper while the other bag is in the wash. It's awesome. Highly recommend. Might work for adult socks, too, if you don't wear them that often. and only have 2-3 pair in the wash at a time.

Matching is not an issue. I did learn a while back to make sure the kid socks were marked. I only have 3 pair of athletic socks that I actually wear, all the same. H deals with his own socks, and you can totally tell by the stitching or whatever.
