How long do you wait?

You call someone (business related) and they tell you they'll call you back. How long do you wait before calling them back?

I ask because this woman called me at 10 and again at 11 and again just now.

It's not an emergency. At all.

I wait a day if it's not an emergency. If it's an emergency, I call in the morning and again in the late afternoon.

If I call in the morning, I'll usually try to touch base again before the end of the day.
If I call in the afternoon, I'll call back either before or after I get back from lunch.

depending on the urgency, a few hours or the next day. 

my old boss used to throw a fit if i wasn't calling the person back every 5 minutes. I actually said to her on a few occasions, I just hung up with them - they'll need a little time to pull the info together. she needed to chill.

I rely almost 100% on email.

I try to give people the, "I will call you back today"

If I haven't called back by 3 they have the right to call, because chances are I've probably forgotten/gotten distracted/lost their number/haven't gotten an answer yet and am putting off calling.

I give 24 hours when I make a request.

Non-emergency I would expect a call back by mid-morning of the next day.  I knew a lot of people that had specific times to return calls- just after lunch, end of day, first thing in the morning.
