Wedding Woes

9 yo boy gift?

I completely blanked on my nephew's bday.  The party is Sunday and I have no gift and no ideas for gifts.  Anyone bought anything cool lately?   Bro and SIL have no ideas.  Worst case I'll do iTUnes, but I'd prefer to get something tangible.

Re: 9 yo boy gift?

  • legos?

any general topics you know he likes?  star wars/harry potter/whatever?
  • Legos, a football (my guys prefer Nike), Under Armour apparel, Tech Decks
  • He's into sports, but not football.  They play soccer, baseball, basketball, but have the gear.  He's getting into art, but my mom got him a bunch for Christmas and more for his bday.  They don't really have legos and he doesn't really read.
  • I'm kind of liking these tech decks.  Is there a good way to start them?  I see a starter kit, but would he also need ramps?  I'd like to keep it under $20
  • Nerf blasters

  • Hmm, fathead wall decals?  they do soccer:

someone you can get him a jersey for?

I kow there are new soccer type video games ('football manager' and FIFA 11) I've heard OK things about...not sure how kidfriendly or 'him friendly' that'd be.
  • i would do TRU over itunes, but that's because i can't get my mind around a 9 year old downloading music to an ipod.

H would probably suggest action figures, like transformers. maybe even a comic book to go with them.
  • Ninjago Legos?

Gift card to sports store or toy store so he can pick out his own stuff?  (This is fun for kids his age)

    Fart joke books?

    A punch in the face?
  • are Legos too "young" for a 9yo boy?
  • He loves his ipod.  It's how 6let first got introduced to "Chicken Fried."

I don't even know where to START with action figures though.  Gah, this kid is as hard to buy for as my brother.
  • No, Legos are not too young for a 9 yo.   They have different levels for this reason.   9 is only 3rd or 4th grade.
  • Any version of Nerf Blaster (or 2 so he and his dad can have battles!)

  • marshmallow blaster. don't forget the marshmallows.

OMG no.  Son is 10 and we just got him a 650pc box of legos for xmas to add to his gajillion pc collection.  He builds stuff with them everyday.
  • Legos wouldn't have been "too young" 10 years ago, but it seems like little kids grow up a lot faster these days. i meant "too young" in his opinion, as kids often think they are more mature than they are.

hell, i was playing with Legos this past weekend. (finished my pirate ship)

The kiddo LOVES his legos.  We have boxes and boxes of them.  He's 11.
  • I also vote 'stomp rocket'
  • He's not into Legos.  My 9 yo niece is though.  She's got Star Wars one the last 2 years.  Off to check out the stomp rocket, but right now tech decks are in the lead.
