I remember we took senior portraits in the fall, and national merit society memberships were doled out in the spring. So many people were all "I want to take a picture with the banner just so they'd have one in case they were inducted that year.

Y'all, some of those people were as dumb as rocks. And those of us who were already in there were a bit miffed about their being allowed to do that. I mean, we *earned* that sash.  

Oh, the things that are SO IMPORTANT in high school.
