Wedding Woes

invitation woes

Okay here goes..... my parents are helping me and my fiance with the wedding, however my fiance's parents are not going to do anything untill after the wedding (with like help with buying a house etc.) Basically, my parents want to have thier names as hosting the wedding with my soon to be in-laws mentioned as the grooms parents.  My fiance is freaking out because he feels that his parents are going to be very upset....what do I do???? I feel like this is a no win situation!

Re: invitation woes

  • Is it an invitation or a party flyer? How are people going to know who hosted if both sets of parents are on the invitation?

    ..
  • Would it possible to word it, "Ann Jones and John Smith together with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Smith invite you to celebrate their wedding on blah blah date..."  Or something like that?
  • I had a similar situation. Mine said:

    Mr and Mrs. J
invite you to share in the blah blah
    of their daughter DK
    and JT
son of Mr and Mrs M, etc.

It wasn't a big deal. My parents hosted it. His parents weren't paying, they were mentioned as his parents and that was that. No one freaked out.

  • See I actually don't have a problem with that, however my mother has let it be known months ago that she felt it it should be done this way, I can't see her bending.  At the end of the day It's just an invitation, we will know who did what etc. God I hate conflict!

So she doesn't want your FI's parents on the invitation AT.ALL?

    Because using LS's wording...
    Mr and Mrs. J
invite you to share in the blah blah
    of their daughter DK
    and JT
son of Mr and Mrs M, etc.

...It's pretty clear that your parents are hosting.
  • exactly.  my parents would like it as
    my parents rquest your pressence...
    me
    my fiance
    son of mr and mrsetc

My fiance thinks it should be

    my parents and his parents
    our names etc
  • I went with old-school proper etiquette.  My parents paid for the wedding, only their names appeared on the invitation.  IL's paid for the rehearsal dinner, their names appeared on that invitation.  It was an easy decision and I never even discussed the wording with my DH.
