Did you really get hit this way?  And no you don't back up.  If you need to change directions you pull in somewhere and do it safely.

Yup. Last week. Sitting at a stoplight, doing the stoplight thing - looking around at people, the weather, changing the radio station, whatever. Point is, I wasn't staring at Mr. Old Guy's SUV back-up lights, so when they went on, I laid on the horn instead of trying to reverse myself, and he crunched the hood.

No real damage, but FFS. I told him to check his mirrors and he was all, "I did!"

Well, I've been sitting here the whole time, ass hole, so no, you didn't.

He wanted to go right, but the guy in front of him was going straight. So he thought he'd back up and cut through the parking lot on the corner. Jerk.

I've only backed up when there was a semi making a left turn in front of me and didn't have enough room.  I had to wave the guy behind me to back up first and thankfully he did because semi truck was truckin' and not caring what he hit in the process.

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

i've gotten hit that way before as well - and i'm always careful to make sure i stop far enough back to see where their tires touch the road.

new car has a backup camera, so i'll be able to tell if something is within 6" on my bumper.
