ZOMG, my H is old, plus a poll

DH is turning 40 next week (!), and I am just now getting three minutes to think about this.  He doesn't want a big party/fuss, which I will respect.  But we'll already have visitors from OOT, so I thought it would be nice to have a cake and candles and sing Happy Birthday.  Low key, but not ignored.

Because I am a party beebee, I want to get some party supplies--just the basic plates and napkins and some balloons, not the fake gravestones and cane and all that crap.  (Even though, as I have established, he is now OLD.)

He's not super excited about turning 40, so I'm trying to cheer him up a little.  Do you think it's better to get something along the lines of "Life is great at 40!" or skip any reference to his age and just do "Happy Birthday?"

Do a kid party, pin the tail on the donkey, smurf or other dated decorations.  Go cheezzy.

So you're set on having something at the house for him? Would he find it funny at all if you did all-black?

I really like this idea, too.  Maybe I can find some vintage Star Wars decorations.  Not that Episode I - III crap.

If he's not excited about it, I'd not make a big deal out of it.  Andplusalso - 40 is not old  (says the 40+ a little year old).

ETA:  I think a party is a good idea, just don't make a big deal out of the 40 part.

Ignore the 40, get some silly games and lots of booze.  Pin the tail on the donky is a lot funnier when people are drunk, so is limbo.

(I don't think 40 is old either, but I feel like FI will be a giant beebee when he turns 40 and I would be apt to do all black to tease him, but actually starwars is better)
