Wedding Woes

Also, there's talk of moving to Memphis.

H's company has a payscale structure that allots a certain salary range to every job title. Apparently, he's completely maxed out on his salary, so from now on, his annual raises will be awarded to him as a bonus, but he can never get another raise.

There are currently zero opportunities for advancement, and even if there were, it would just be the supervisory position over his current one, and he's already close to maxed out on that payscale, too.

His BFF, though, works for a different company that does the same thing for the same company H works with. BFF has been offered a job in Memphis. H called him up for career advice since BFF has advanced farther and has more opportunities, and BFF is going to ask about bringing an employee with him to Memphis.

Of course, H is also talking to his boss today about changing the payscales or if there are advancement opportunities that he may not be qualified for right now, but could work toward in the near future. We're hoping for that, because I really don't want to move, but he's frustrated. If there's nowhere to go here in CO, we'll probably be moving to corporate HQ in Cinncinnati.

Blargh. I want to make a million bucks selling books. Think that'll happen soon?

    I vote Cinci!

Seriously, I hope things work out for your H and the family.

6, for some reason he is vehemently opposed to Cinci. I just want him to be happy in his work and have something to move toward. Moving isn't terrible - I'm getting to a place in life where seeing new stuff seems pretty cool, rather than pretty terrifying - just a PITA.

    I know I'd prefer Cinci's climate to Memphis's.

I'd take Cinci 1000xs over Memphis.  Memphis is hot and sticky and hot and sticky and hot.

I asked him a couple months ago if he ever checks the job listings (after listening to yet another rant about work) for his company, and he was all, "Yeah. They're all in Cinncinnati."

    And I was like, "So?"

And then he claimed to hate Cinci and it's awful and have I ever been there? It's terrible!

So I asked if *he* had ever been there.

"Uh, well, no. Not, like, *in person*."

    He's so weird.

There are also jobs available in PHX, but no. I told him flat out that unless we're desperate - like, we'll be homeless unless he takes that job - we're not going back there. We'll go to California before that - and we can't afford to live in California.

There are really fantastic parts of Cincy and really awful parts, but not much in between, in my experience.   They've had a lot of racial issues in the past, which to me is a turn off.

I've only been to Cincy on a 3 day business trip, and didn't think it was that bad. We went on a Riverboat dinner cruise, so that would be something you guys could do.

if a move is proposed, try and get to company to pay for your family to check it out before you accept an offer. if nothing else, it's a free vacation.

H interviewed for a job in Cincy several years ago.  I researched and obsessed and had houses and neighborhoods targeted and found jobs for me...and then he didn't get the job. :(

My brother has lived there for 20 years.  I went to school near there so we ended up there quite often.  AF is pretty accurate that there are some very good areas and some very bad.  There are several Universities in the area so there are tons of options for stuff to do.

Word to that! You'd only be 3 hours from me and I'd still tell you to go to Cinci.
