Wedding Woes

clothing (br)

one of dh's co-workers offered up a giant bag of maternity clothing.  i should have known better.

i have met this woman, and she is lovely and charming.  however, she's also tiny, like christina on tough love couples tiny.

i got half a giant bag yesteday, and it's all size small or xsmall.  there are five pairs of jeans -- all designer, all size 4 and under.  the only pair of pants that fits is a pair of sweatpants, and y'all know i don't do sweatpants.

i had myself a good laugh and a nice hop around the bedroom as i greased up and tried to get into a tube skirt (i know).  i'm keeping a few shirts, but everthing else is heading back to her with a grateful note and a box of cupcakes.

btw, why did no one tell me that all maternity pants are pull-ons?  i would have been shopping at maternity stores a long time ago if i had known this glorious fact.

oh baconsmom, i know. maternity clothes and their shortcomings are only some of the things that make up your crown of thorns.

    Ha. That's for the visual.

Very nice of her, but I'm sure you aren't the first chick to not be able to use them.

Yes they do, BMom.  At least most of my jeans/shorts had pockets.   Not so much my work pants though.  I will say that during the heat of the summer, all you will want to wear is a moo-moo with a fan stuck between your legs.

I never found any. Didn't matter: I couldn't wear maternity past about month six, anyway; it was all too small.

Hmo, I like to complain; I don't think I'm a martyr. I have a cushy life. I just like bitching.

hmo - if you don't mind answering, what size do you wear?
I have several maternity tops that shrunk and I'll never where them.  (BTW, Motherhood Maternity stuff sucks - - never put their clothes in the dryer.)  If you want them, you can have them.   I'd say they are probably a size M to M/L now.  They're all summer tops.

Hmo, I have the dress I wore to the hospital and some maternity tank tops if you want them.  None are particularly impressive - all Old Navy stuff I think.

empire waist will last for a while, but eventually your bewbs will get huge and nothing will fit anyway.  Plus, eventually your belly will go beyond what even an empire waist can handle.

FWIW, I recommend looking around at consignment stores.  Once Upon A Child has a fairly nice maternity section. Plenty of crap, but the occasional gem. And cheap.  I also had a lot of luck at JC Penney, of all places.  Again, nothing fabulous, but very passable pants, casual shirts, dress shirts, jeans, and even dresses, usually on sale for 40% off or more.

Mine have pockets...excpet the super cheap ones from SIL's hand-me down.

    But they're damn expensive.
    But comfy.
(although they fit funny.  The ones i"m wearing today fit me a weeka go...and are falling down today)

For reals, JCP and Sears were the shizzzz for maternity wear.  Some shirts (basic button downs for work) I got for $3 on clearance.

::shrug::  I can't remember.  4 months?  5?  Even at 9, I was still wearing some regular clothes.

Oh, I also have a black casual w/eyelet skirt in a Large if any preggos want it.  It's not maternity, but has a soft, elastic waist.  I'd wear it with tank tops or tees on the weekends.

I started wearing them around 12 weeks, because I'm fat.

And I got my best and least expensive clothes at JCPenney.

i'm at 4 mos, and i can no longer wear any of my normal pants.

loveshine, i hope you are asking for a rough estimate, not actual advice as to when you should switch over.

Just a rough estimate. Everything still fits, although certain jeans are more comfortable unbuttoned under a long shirt while sitting down.

I've been working from home a lot, so it's nice not having to worry about it yet (sweatpants / pjs every day) - i'm glad pretty much all of my new (warm weather) work dresses and tops are empire-waisted or were a little too big when i bought them 2 months ago. I have a business trip in about 3 weeks, so i'll need to make sure that my pants are still comfy before I go. I've actually lost about 5 lbs since mid-March, so if anything, they should fit a little better now.

I started wearing maternity at about 4 months. I started with the bella bands, but they're kind of a PITA and don't work at all with regular jeans. My "bump" is more me than baby.

I like motherhood's clothes and haven't had any shrinkage problems, but then I dry my clothes on a line.
