For the dino kids

B/c I like to encourage kids to be smartypants and know-it-alls as often as possible:

Re: For the dino kids

  • I will have to send this to DH.  Dude loves his dinos and loves to point out inaccuracies in any and all dino shows/movies.

  • Way to be a bunch of life ruiners. I was pretty happy believing Jesus rode around on T-Rex eating everything in sight. Also, I'm still pretty bitter that the Brontosaurus doesn't really exist anymore.

<div>I'll need to bookmark this for Wolverine when she's a bit older. She saw part of Jurassic Park over the weekend and is on a dinosaur kick. She was running around saying "Rawr!!!!!!!!!" and pretending to be a Tyrannosaurus. </div>

    lol @ Wolverine. Cute!

For the preschool set, Dinosaur Train is actually pretty good about this stuff. Some of the actual stories bend reality quite a bit (they go through a "time tunnel" so the main protagonists can socialize with dinosaurs from other eras, for example), but at the end, there is a real paleontologist who sets the facts straight and points out various things. I actually knew almost all of these (or had never heard the myth, like about how it was always summertime. Who really thought that?)

We also have a good number of dinosaur books, and, being nerds, we lean toward the factual ones.

Dex did tell me last night, "I really do know a lot about dinosaurs." (Which isn't true, even among the 4yo set. But whatever.) Cracks me up.

<div>There is going to be a Creation Science convention close to me.  I really really really want to go.  I'm hesitant to go with some of my other atheist/humanist/freethinker friends though.  I can privately think you're crazy, but I really have no desire to witness about anything to anyone, including evolution.  I just want to watch it.</div>

Can't you go and not evangelize? I mean, it's not like you won't know what you're getting into. Maybe you can help each other hold your tongues.

  • I love this, V, thank you.

Barbie--DD just hit this phase.  Dropped being a kitty overnight in favor of being a T-rex.  Her teachers say that she chases her friends on the playground and claims to have eaten them up.

DG--Do you have National Geographic's Little Kids First Big Book of Dinosaurs?  This is like DD's bible now.  A word of warning:  when they say "big book," they're not kidding--it's well over 100 pages, so be sure to set limits if bedtime is approaching.  (Learned this the hard way.)
  • I'll be fine.

But I'll be honest, some of the people (not all of them, not even the majority; it's just that the loud ones are LOUD) that want to go are as rude as the people they profess to dislike.

I just really want to see the "teaching" materials in person.  DH and I are considering just going ourselves to see what's going on.

<div>this is what bothers me^^^ i don't give a rat's ass if someone is a Christian, Pastafarian, or Athiest (or anywhere on the religious/nonreligious spectrum) - i just hate it when they're in your face about it all of the time. is your religion/lackthereof going to benefit significantly from some weak-minded-sheep that you were able to convert?</div><div>

<div>We have a Discovery Channel one that is HUGE and another one that might be National Geographic but is definitely not 100+ pages. Among several others that I can't specifically recall the publishers and titles of.  That one sounds good, though. Most of the ones we have are WAY over their level, like maybe fourth grade, even sixth grade. So we read a few lines, talk about which ones have sharp teeth, and move on.  </div><div>
</div><div>Part of me wants to check yours out. The rest of me is screaming that we have enough damn dinosaur books already. :)</div>
