poll

do you open your so's mail?

i do when it's something pretty obvious like a bill.  dh refuses to open mail addressed to me, even though all the credit card bills are in my name.

Depending on what it is. A bill, yes. A personal letter, no. Not that he ever gets personal letters, but he gets cards and such, and I wouldn't open those.

Nope. But we generally get junk. I do throw out or shred his junk (DIRTY!) without him seeing.

Not typically, but I will  if it's something that I know he's waiting for and he's not around to open it himself.

Yes. Everything. If I don't open it, it will never get opened.

No.  Only if he is looking for something and asks me to open it.

What does infuriate me however is when DH will come home and ask me, "What did we get in the mail?".

I don't have it memorized. I went through looking for my Cooking Light Magazine and catalogs. I didn't notice what stupid crap you got from the NRA or security information.

Bills and such yes, anything that looks personal, I leave it for him.
  • edited December 2011
Nope. I get the mail and split it into two piles. Mine gets processed immediately. His mail sits around for ever and ever and ever.

Yes. Personal stuff is usually addressed to both of us anyway. I handle all the household finances so I open all the bills and checks.

I open it. If I tell him there's mail, he's going to ask me what it is and for how much anyway. It's more efficient.

I open everything unless it's obvious it's a birthday card.

I'm with everyone else. I open all the bill type mail, and leave personal letters for him to open.

Sidenote: he received a letter from a "Vanessa" that was hand addressed to him. I didn't recognize the name and assumed it was probably someone writing him to find out if he's found Christ.

It was a letter (hand written) from someone asking if he's found Christ, and letting him know there's spanish-to-english classes at her church and they're "English Progressive" or something.

Our bills are separate so I have no need to open those with his name. The only bill I open in his name is the electric. Other than that I leave his mail for him.

Now, e-mail is a different story. He hates being on the computer and gave me the passwords to all his email accounts to check. All he wants is for me to tell him when he got something he needs to respond to.

one of us will open everything and sort/shred/etc. depending on who gets to the mail first that day. The only thing that we won't open is something like a birthday card or package that is addressed to the other person.
