Wedding Woes

I was accused of being PC

One of our house guests kept using "gay" in a derogatory manner. "That's so gay!" "What do you have to be gay?" I asked him to stop and was pooh poohed with "oh you're just being PC."

No, I'm not being PC. If we are calling ourselves Christian, and believe ourselves to be Christians, then we shouldn't use the word "gay" spitefully or hatefully. It doesn't mean you have to accept or condone behavior, sexual preference, or a lifestyle you believe is wrong. As Christians we're expected to treat people with love and dignity always.

Everyone just laughed and said I was being too sensitive. H did not back me up. I was disappointed in him for that. I don't want my son learning it's okay to demean people because we might not agree with however they live their lives.

You could always use that guy's name as an adjective in place of gay.  Maybe your husband's, too.

How old was this person?  I completely agree with your argument and would have been all kinds of mad at H if he didn't back me up.

Person is in his mid-40's. He's a known joker and people typically brush off as his antics as "Oh that's just Dummy. You can't take him too seriously." Still NOT okay. Honestly, I think it's a copout (sp?) people use because they don't have the nerve to call him or others like him out on their stupidity.

You were 10000000% right, and good for you for speaking up.

I thought the title said PG not PC though.

Oh person called son's bouncer gay. When I gave him a dirty look he said, "What? I'm just saying it's happy." <eyeroll>.

I love you PMB.  Thank you for sticking up for what you believe in.  PAH @ people thinking they're "christian" when you demean someone.

I hate that too, O-Face. It makes them no better than those jackazz Westboro Church people.

You know there is the possiblity that you may have reached people, even if it's not at that moment.  Pay attention and see if he still uses it as frequently in the future.

    there's always hope.

<eyeroll /> That really wasn't the point. The point, <em>regardless</em> of what one (in this case a Christian) might believe about homosexuality, it is not okay to demean or abuse homosexuals in any way. To do so is decidedly <em>un</em>Christian.

<div>That is exactly my point.  You saying it is a preference is just as upsetting to someone who is gay as it is when someone uses the word "gay" to describe something that is "stupid" or "lame".  </div><div>
</div><div>I am not trying to argue anything with you, just simply pointing something out.  </div>

i didn't say I believe it's a preference. What I was refering to is this persons beliefs, ideas, presumptions about homosexuality. I don't know if he believes people are born gay or not. Regardlessof what he believes, his behavior is unacceptable.
