Wedding Woes

Things are starting to get tight.

You can move your kid from a low performing school to a higher performing school in our district. I'm sure this is in most districts.

Let's just say that seats are getting tight over here. I've enrolled about 25 kids for 6th grade since Monday, and I have a stack on my desk. Hmmmm. The classes are getting big, but you can't turn them away.

This doesn't include kids that have moved here. I can't wait until teachers look at their rosters later today. Fun times.

  • So are the other schools just ghost-towns?

School politics scare me and infuriate me.  I just wish every kid could be given the best opportunities.

This is insane to me. You can't just move all of the kids from a low-performing school to a high-performing one and expect it to work forever. Eventually, the high-performing school gets overburdened, and student/teacher ratios start to get worse and spending per student starts to get worse, and all of the things that made it a high-performing school in the first place start to disintegrate.

This is also one reason why private school vouchers won't work, either. If your per-student spending is too low, it doen't really matter where you spend it, you know?

  • so in effect, they're going to overload the higher performing schools, thereby increasing the student to teacher ratio, reduce the effectiveness of the teachers, test lower on the next cycle, and then pull all of the kids?

  • Yep. It seems that way.

I know the middle school only has about 600 and we are seating at almost 1200.

I wanted to say the same thing but figured I was going to be called hateful and discriminating against stupid people.
