Wedding Woes

6:30 Monday morning

I've been up since 430.  Darn kids and their darn colds.

So how was the weekend?

Saturday morning I got up and cleaned bathrooms and we all got ready to go to some Dr. Seuss "event" at Meijer.  They were really just reading stories and handing out a plate of green pudding with a nilla wafer in it.  Good thing we needed groceries too.

My friend came.  I was a little bummerd her daughter did too.  How do you make a surly teen more surly?  Get her pregnant.  There was much internal judgement that I hoped didn't make it out.

Then we met friends at Chuck E Cheese.  I have never been to CEC.  It was both better and worse than expected.  It was a zoo, but it was Saturday night.  It was just dirty too though.  I mean people just left crap everywhere.  They wouldn't do that in a normal restaurant, but for some reason it was acceptable there,

Sunday I started rocking what I can only think is a sinus infection.  I can barely talk and my snot is neon green.  All we really did was exchange/return a bunch of stuff to Old Navy.  I spent $100 there Friday and returned $60 on Sunday.  Pants can suck it.

Re: 6:30 Monday morning

  • Aw, I hope the kids (and you!) feel better soon.

The pregnant daughter is 19, no?  Weird that she tagged along.  Unless she wanted some pregnant attention or something.

Saturday we went to every dang shoe store/place with a shoe department in this city, except for walmart.  DD1 needs new sneakers.  But she's in the size that moves her up to the kid section from the toddler section and EVERYTHING in the kid section has laces.  I don't want to mess with laces yet.  She also has a requirement that they be sparkly.

So we broke down and went to walmart yesterday and sure enough, we found sparkly sneakers that weren't obnoxious with a velcro closure in her size.  Bonus - they were on clearance for $9.  SOLD.

We also visited my family yesterday.  It was much needed, as we hadn't seen them since xmas.
  • I also have a bad case of wanting to get the heck out of town.  I talked to my brother and he told us to use his beach condo anytime.  He also mentioned we could perobably convince my mom to come along.  A week on a beach with someone to help?  And a visit with my bro?  It sounds really fun.

We joke that Max is our vacation this year.  We were just going to do a long weekend locally, but we could almost do a week at the beach for the same price.
  • Daughter is 20.  She wanted to see our kids and thought we still lived in BFE.  She got a little happier when we went to BRU.  She liked looking at cribs and clothes, but a wave of reality hit when we were talking about carseats.

Kid shoes suck and I hate the bump between baby/toddler/kid.  I bought size 5 jeans for 6let not realizing the difference between 5 and 5T.  We had to exchange.  I've had decent luck with Walmart shoes.  DH was at Meijer and saw some shoes for M2.  He couldn't remember her size so bought 2.  He scored her current size and the next.  Done and done.

  • Boo to 4:30am wake-up.

YAY for $9 shoes and LOL at them *having* to be sparkly.

Weekend was good.  The kiddo had bball on Friday night, so we had an early dinner and watched Taken 2.

Saturday, we went to the kiddo's bball game in the morning.  After lunch, I went to World Market and Target.  We grilled steaks for dinner and watched, "End of Watch".

Sunday, lazy morning.  I ran to ON to get socks for DefConn and picked up some camis, a shirt, and a wrap dress (only $7!) for me.  We had dinner at my parents and then I watched the Oscars and am so.damn.tired today.
  • DH is just as bad.  I sent him a text to tell me to step away from googling the beach.  He texted back he was doing the same thing.  Seriously, gas would be $200.  That's 2 nights in a cheap hotel.  The condo is beach front with a pool.  Last time we were there we ate in every meal except 2.  A long weekend would be eating out every night.

  • Weekend was pretty quiet.

I had some career readiness certification test on Saturday morning.  Dang if it didn't actually take the whole 3 hours.  I actually ran out of time on one test with crazy graphs...3 axes and graduated lines...?  No.  Keep that shiz out of my sight.  I actually scored pretty high but I kind of want to take it over to prove that I can do it better.  Or the section I didn't like anyway.

The rest of the day was spent just relaxing though I did get out for a good run.

Sunday was more lounging..laundry, etc.  But I loved watching the Oscars.  Laughed quite a bit too.

  • Weekend was good, despite DD deciding that the middle of the night "I need to make sure I'm not alone!" cries needed to resume.

Did a lot of errand running and then went to a special birthday party :D

Since 8am yesterday, I'm running on 2.5 hours of sleep thanks to DD needing to have nothing to do with her crib last night. And then H snoring. This two day meeting I'm putting together and attending (today and tomorrow) will be just awesome.
  • DH turned down the job.  We had a big heart to heart over the weekend.  He did propose an option to do some intermediary consulting to help and to get the one guy more up to speed.  I doubt they accept that, but it was worth a shot.
  • 6-I was wondering that just as I was scrolling through the craziness re: the job offer from last week.  I'm glad to hear that, even though now you'll be in the poor house.  You unsupportive and short-sighted wife. ;)  (j/k of course)

  • Way to hold him back, 6!

I'm glad you two talked it all out and came to a compromise.
  • I thought that ball and chain cliche meant I needed to hold him back so I put my foot down.  Not really, he came home sporting some pretty flowers and I kinda knew we were on the same page.  We just needed to say the words in person.
  • Was he smiling, 6? I am dying to see his smile.
  • Saturday, I ran a bunch of errands, did some extreme couponing 24 of hair color for 7!, and actually had great CS at DB they told me I didn't have to pick my dress up and I can wait until my u/s to reorder. Then picked up a bag of books and a snoogle for a friend who's baby was born 6 weeks early but had been home for a couple weeks now he's so tiny and sweet. Then I sobbed watching Modern Family, where Flojencio was born. Sunday sobbed watching Downton Abbey all day. We both camw down with a fever and cold. I hope it's not the flu, even though we both had this year's apparently ineffective flu shot. Today DH made me stay home from work, which is fine anyway because I would have probably ended up going back home and needing my mom to pick me up from a different train station and then back to my car since my line doesn't run trains in the middle of the day. So we have a date with Big Bang Theory and Hulu today.

    They show up as paragraphs.
  • Maybe I should sell tickets to see DH smile.  You know, because we're so poor we won't have any money for retirement or college.
  • I think that is perhaps the best bit of retirement and savings planning I have seen from you, 6.  Huzzah!

  • 6-huzzah!  I was really hoping that was how it'd work.

This weekend was challenging.  The Mr's birthday happening in the middle of the malePMSdepressive cycle kinda sucks all around.

we had the birthday dinner w/ the ILs yesterday, which was mostly good.  Chid missed her nap and melted down though.

I also went to the library book sale and bought stuff--managed to get one 1st edition which is worth more than I spent on 2 grocery bags of books (AND, the Mr. was happy that I cleaned the bookshelves in the office.  I'm demanding more shelves though, because the organization is all wonky.
Also, I finished Buffy's superhero costume, which I'll show off shortly.

Who am I kidding?  You know I'd spend it on hookers and blow.
  • Pure genius, 6! You'd make a fortune just on us alone.
  • also, I went to mejier for groceries and saw the 'suess event'...
I was really glad I left Buffy @ home...it would have been her going "wtf?" :-P

  • my weekend was a bust. i'm still sick (2+ weeks now) and Wolverine got some sort of stomach bug, so she was pretty miserable. I spent most of the weekend in bed, and DK took care of Wolverine most of the time. DK did take my spot on the into to scuba class that i've been wanting to take, so at least he got a little time to himself before the madness started.

i finally get to go get a CAT scan on wed to see if they can figure out wtf is causing the headaches and nausea. Doctor is thinking that i may have a sinus infection (just super deep) and the pressure is what is screwing me up. She wants me to set up an appoinment with a neurologist just in case there's something else going on.
  • Morning. This was a great weekend. Grandpa ending up getting his endoscopy and being released at 2 pm. DH and I went to the hotel and had room service that night which was so nice. We ended up getting a room upgrade plus a bottle of champagne and some chocolate covered strawberries that night as a "thank you" from the hotel. I will miss my status. Saturday: Slept in the next morning and had brunch, then massages, then I took a nap while DH watched crappy TV. Went for dinner at our fave Mexican restaurant then came back and just hung out. Sunday: checked out, picked up DS. Came home with him and played, took naps, ordered pizza for dinner. Today it's back to reality. I'm doing laundry to celebrate.

You're where, in Ohio? Care to send me some shoes with laces? Bacon still can't tie her shoes, because all the shoes she's ever worn have been velcro. Her current sneakers are laces, finally - now that she's in a size 3.5, and almost to women's shoes - but this is the first pair. Kid's almost 9. <div>

  • Friday night we went to a Brazilian bbq and died from meat comas. (BFF couple took us out for our birthdays - no, we are not spending money we don't have on endless meat buffets.  Like 6, we save that for hookers and blow.)
Saturday we nursed food hangovers and did pretty much nothing until the evening.  We went to an OSU hockey game (the site of our first date almost exactly 9 years ago) and had a lot of fun there.
Yesterday I made some AWESOME lemon chicken soup with orzo.  In the afternoon, DD and I went roller skating - which was absolutely ridiculous because, guess what, I'm not 14 anymore.  And then last night we had friends over to watch the Oscars.  It was fun.

  • Interesting. It is harder as the sizes get bigger, but we are still doing OK finding velcro stuff. Maybe that "judgy btch" should talk about how the shoe industry is actively keeping boys from learning how to tie their shoes.

And yes, for all I care, they can wear velcro until they are 15. I have no patience for extended dressing sessions. I rarely put them in button-down shirts for the same reason. (They CAN button their shirts. I just don't have 20 extra minutes' worth of patience to deal with it.)

Weekend was good. As most of you know, it was the annual firefighter dinner. H got an engraved watch for 10 years of service. The awards part was short and sweet, then there was dancing and afterparty. We actually had to leave our car there and get a ride home because we drank WAY too much. (I think I had 8 drinks over about 6 hours. H might have had a couple more.) I spent a long time talking to Angel Wing Reindeer Hooker, who it turns out is actually really nice, so now I feel bad about sharing her hoochie pics on FB for all these years.

The boys went to grandma's so we could do the award dinner, and we both slept in on Sunday. I worked a lot on Sunday and kept up with the Oscars online. Overall, a very well-dressed year, with just a few exceptions, imo.

Tomorrow I start a whirlwind of travel, so today is all prep for that. I'm driving to Michigan and am looking forward to 8 hours in my car with my audiobooks and NPR podcasts. :)
