Wedding Woes

This is not going well.

My FI and I have been together for four years, got engaged in May. I am from WA state and he is from AK. I work here in AK in the summer, and he is from here. We have had four winters of long distance relationships. Suckfest.

Given that we don't want to be apart, and that I don't want to live with him before the wedding (and, not that we are pure as the driven snow, but we are waiting for marriage to have sex!), and I also don't want to pay for two different apartments over the winter, again--we don't want to wait to get married very long.

Our families live $1,000 plane ticket apart. So we figured...if someone is gonna schlep to our wedding, it might as well be somewhere people want to go--Hawaii. People were totally on board. Initially. Everyone has the money, time is possible for everyone, but people just got really petty. I'll spare you the drama and just say that my family could write soap operas. It has been effing ridiculous.

For the third time, back to the drawing board... I don't know what to do. The latest curve ball is that FI has a 50/50 chance of having to work from Oct to December in the boondocks--the cold and frozen north, literally a 7 hour drive from any small city. Obviously I don't want to partake in that--but I know he would LOVE it. It is a great opportunity for him and I am hesitant to deprive him of it, because he would also enjoy it. But he also wants to get married soon...

So my confusion is whether to push through and get married in early October (he can take some time off) like we were gearing up to (no invitations have been sent, but we could totally do it where we were thinking in my hometown and it would be beautiful and unique and fun).. OR just hold off until the next available window (February) and have a small wedding in Hawaii (our second attempt to plan a hawaiian wedding).

I don't expect anyone to have an answer for me, but as brides who are there or have been there or something, maybe someone has something helpful or encouraging to say, or advice. Whatever... It just isn't going well and I'm kind of down about it. Also, I am working six days a week... and does anyone else have the problem with resorts and venues getting back to them? I have called and emailed about 15 resorts, and they all seem to take about 5 business days to get in touch with the wedding/events people. Awesome.
