How can I tell someone they aren't invited to my wedding?

I am having trouble with my guest list.

ok, heres the issue: I told a person I went to high school with (nearly 10 years ago) that I was engaged. We talk/email here and there, but I havent actually seen this person since graduation. They asked if I had set a date for my wedding, and I told them it is going to be June 21st of 2013....their response was "Well, I should be able to make it! We have a year though, so we will have to see once it gets closer!" I have NO intention of inviting this person to my wedding..any suggestions on how to handle this stuation??

Either invite her, which is the easiest option, or tell her 'We're keeping it to family and close friends.' The second option can blow up in your face if you're inviting a lot of people you went to high school with.

Don't talk wedding around this person. If they bring it up, just tell them you guys are keeping the guest list small and would love to get together for dinner after the wedding.

I'd wait until at least April of 2013 to worry about this. That person could get hit by a bus between now and then - problem solved!

When I have this problem, I just let people know that we are planning on having a somewhat small ceremony.. just close friends and family.

Noone has the right expect they will be invited to someone's wedding, and if she is, that's her issue. Having said that, be nice to her and don't talk wedding with her.
