So, I mentioned I've been teaching the kids who work for me 'to be mean' (ie, not to be pushovers)
Well, in this area, there are no cell phones, food, or drink. Thems the rules. There are signs. If someone starts answering their phone on the way out to the hall? we don't care. But no being obnoxious on your phone in here.
(and No sexually harassing the student workers. Which isn't on the sign because it's obvious. And for the record? Creepy Guy has NOT been back. Which is unfortunate because I was planning on dealing w/ him personally in spite of students reluctance to escalate. )
Aenyhoo, one of the girls who has gotten MUCH better at being assertive while working here told a student (firmly) to "please finish your cell phone conversation outside". Student rolled her eyes and tried to ignore and just walk to the corner of the room (beause THAT is quieter, uh huh) and my worker was very forceful in saying "NO, I said OUTSIDE".
She even managed to get that irritated but still polite 'edge' to her voice.
Student is finishing the conversation outside. :-D
It's nice when they don't look helpless and wait for me to rescue them. This is huge for us :-P
