Wedding Woes

movie review and a question

Love and Other Drugs

I watched this accidentally last night. we watched the Sopranos on HBO, and never changed the channel when it ended. L&OD was on right after.

something about anne hathaway bugs me, but i like her. and the same goes for jake gyllenhall.

anyway. it's a really good movie, i was surprised. i'm not a romantic date movie kind of gal, but this was a really interesting story. it's based on a book about a viagra salesman (non fiction, i think, which is probably why i like it).

RECOMMEND. it's interesting, well acted, and i liked the characters and the ending. lots of funny parts.

QUESTION - what's with all the T&A in this movie? gratuitous nudity kind of irks me.

Re: movie review and a question

  • Ha - yes, AH and JG were nekkid for almost the entire movie.  I'm not sure what was up with it, but honestly, I didn't mind.  JG has a nice a$$.

I want to hate AH, but I can't.  She's talented.
  • I've seen most of this movie.  I think I missed the first 30 minutes or so and then missed the very end.  But I didn't hate what I saw, and I am not a romantic date movie girl either.
  • I think that Anne Hathway's acting is very superb and very fine.  She has a very British way of acting.  So, her talent is coming across as this very developed, very old British style, all wrapped up in this young American body and it's a bit unsettling.  It doesn't match up.

I had started thinking about this a long time ago.  B/c I can see her holding her own very comfortably holding her own against Dames Maggie Smith and Judi Dench and male actors that I love like Ian McKellan and Jim O'Reilly that have the same styles, but developed it with mature years and experience.
  • I like Anne Hathway in movies, but I can't stand her when she is being interviewed and/or accepting awards.  She comes across as very fake and annoying.

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

She practices being more "likeable", and it doesn't work. She's not an off-the-cuff kind of person, which is fine when she's acting, but I think a lot of people want her to be cool and suave and easy IRL, and she's not. Like most of us, I'd guess. <div>

  • She's like every girl in the performing arts programs at my high school (I went to a FAME-like high school) so maybe she seems more normal to me than she does to others.
