Wedding Woes

not my week

first the upstairs AC went out on Saturday pm - so we've been sleeping in our family room on an air mattress, and Wolverine in her pack n play. No service yet, but someone is supposed to come out today. hopefully he can fix it, but with our luck, we'll need some obscure part that will be on backorder for weeks. it's been so hot upstairs (100+) that the thermostat actually reset to 00, 01, 02, etc. because it can't handle 3 digits.

yesterday I got in a car accident on my way home from work (more pics on FB).

i was coming up on a yellow light and didn't have time to make it through the intersection so i stopped. a second after i stopped, a woman plowed into me from behind at full speed (~50mph) and spun my car out into the intersection. I was very lucky that nobody had started moving in the other direction yet. it took me a few seconds to get my bearings, and move my car out of the intersection. i don't know if she was on the phone or just not paying attention, or trying to run the light

I was on my way to pick up wolverine, and was lucky that she wasn't in the car - my 3 back windows all shattered, and she would have been covered in glass.

i talked to the EMTs and nixed going to the emergency room. i did go to urgent care and get some x-rays. the verdict is a neck sprain - need to wait a few days/week to see if there was a concussion. i have some symptoms, but not severe, and they could also be caused by the neck sprain. i was wearing my seat belt, which really helped me not get hurt as badly, but i did bounce off my seat so hard that it was in a full recline. The EMTs told me i would be really sore for the next few days, and the urgent care doc gave me lots of good painkillers.

The cop ticketed the woman who hit me and said she was at fault, so thankfully insurance will cover everything with no rate increase - i wasn't planning on getting a new car until mine died, but it looks like that will be happening much sooner than i thought.

i'm just thankful that i wasn't hurt worse, and that nobody else was in the car.

Oh Lord.  The pics are just horrifying.  I am SO glad Wolverine was not in the car, as are you, I'm sure.

Was her carseat base in the car or is she in a covertible?  Either way, you'll have to replace because of the accident, right?

I'm glad the lady was ticketed.  When are you going to start car shopping?

I'm glad it's not worse injuries, but I'm sure you're going to be sore as hell for a few days. Maybe even a week.  Take care and take it easy.

YIKES!  I'm so glad you weren't hurt worse.  I hope your neck heals quickly and that lady has a comin' to Jesus with herself.

H's accident several years back was about like this.  It also broke his seat.  He was about 3 hours from home at the time and drove the broken down, completely unsafe car all the way home after being released from the hospital.  I was furious with him.

i'm not sure what the cop ticketed for, but yeah only a ticket (or tickets). as far as i could tell she wasn't drinking or high - i'm guessing either was distracted/on phone, or slammed on the gas to try and get through the yellow light.

I have USAA, and i know they've done a good job for us in the past - hoping this won't be too bad, but should be pretty open and shut with her at fault.

i have rental coverage, so once i'm ok to drive, I can get the rental. i have an idea of what i want in terms of cars, but i'm going to shop around a bit - maybe start looking in a few days, and test drive when i'm feeling a bit better.

Yes, drive that rental as long as you can.  I hated being pressured into buying another car....sucked.

I hope you get through all of this with minimal pain!

Soooooo glad Wolverine wasn't with you and that you weren't hurt worse.  She was probably cited for failure to maintainassured  clear distance.  The whole thing is crappy, but do people honestly think she deserves more than a ticket?

I'm so glad you're ok and Wolverine wasn't in the car yet. It could have been much worse, so the car is the least of it.

The ac situation sucks. I'm surprised that they have let you go this long without having it fixed. In FL, it's a 1 day turnaround at most. I would have assumed it's the same thing in TX, where it gets even hotter.

So glad you're okay.  I'm betting she was trying to make the light and figured you were as well.  My sister got t-boned at an intersection a few months ago by a lady who went around several cars going about 50 to run a red light - then lied to her insurance company about it and said my sister was the one who ran the light.  Fortunately, the police report and several eyewitnesses said otherwise.

What kind of car are you thinking about?  Even when the other person's insurance pays, it's such a pain to deal with a totaled car.

[QUOTE]holy hell, i am so glad no one was seriously injured. yeah i bet she was trying to make the light. wowzers. glad you're okay. my advice....and i haven't read the other replies yet....don't take the easy way out. <strong>go to any doctor appointments you're advised to. this is why we have insurance. you might feel okay right now, but who knows how you'll feel in a week.

    YES YES YES.

an attorney friend told me that when she was rear-ended on an on-ramp, the guy ran out and asked if she was okay.  her response was "i am not experiencing any symptoms now" which is a good legal response (hee) but also true -- who knows how you will feel tomorrow?
