potty related

have you had better luck with the potty chairs, or the the little seat that sits on a toilet?

i got wolverine one of the little seats for the toilet. i started sitting her on it this weekend (she's only 15 mo and just started walking - i'm not expecting her to *use* it, just get used to/comfortable with the idea - the whole - "look, mommy pees in the potty, now wolverine "pees" in the potty" before we go out)

i was thinking the seat may be easier to adjust to a *big* toilet when we're out, and i also wouldn't have to keep cleaning out a potty.

Re: potty related

  • We had a potty chair whose seat removed and could be placed on the potty. Not that it helped much, but I thought it was a good compromise - the chair isn't too tall for littles, but the portable seat meant we could keep up with training while on-the-go.

  • We have the Baby Bjorn potty chair.  We bought it a year ago so she could get used to it...but she won't go near the toilet.  She likes to wipe and throw her toilet paper in the toilet and flush it, but she doesn't want to sit on it.

But I don't know if that's a normal kid thing (to not want anything to do with the toilet) or if we did that to her by getting her the little chair.

She uses a little potty chair that sings and dispenses stickers at my mom's house (she's there 3-4 days a week.)    But at our house (the other 3-4 days) she uses a seat that sits on the potty.   For her, it doesn't seem to matter - she'll use either.

ETA:  Barbie - my kid is twice as old as Wolverine, so take my advice for what it's worth!
  • We tried the Playskool Musical Potty first. The music scared her one time, and it now serves as a stool at her sink. A friend gave me her Bjorn, which DD liked. However, she wanted to use the big potty like me, so we got her a seat that goes on the toilet. (Just a plain white, no frills toilet seat from Walmart) Once she could hold on to the toilet on her own, she only wanted the cushioned seat when she was going #2. We used all three of those for less than a month total.

  • We have 2 bjorns and a fisher price thing that sits on the potty. (ours is a turtle, but I think they discontinued that one and now have a singing penguin)

It was nice to have the bjorns throughout the house vs. having to rush back to the far bathroom where the FP one was, at least in the beginning.  Now he can make it to the big potty.

Of course, you can always get multiple on-the-potty ones to use in multiple bathrooms. We were going to do that, especially when cleaning poop out of bjorn got bad, but in the end we managed to convince him that poop had to happen in turtle potty. Soon after, he started peeing standing up in the real potty, so there was no need for the bjorn at all.

We're easing back into all of it with the next kid now. :)

  • We started with the thing to sit on the toilet because I didn't want the ick factor of cleaning that free standing potty.  The second day he got scared of the big potty so we got the little one.  The little one turned out to be a blessing when we were house hunting and a few houses didn't have running water.

I will say to get some sort of stool for a big potty.  6let likes to use it to get on/off, wash his hands, and just to stabilize himself.
  • i bought a little step stool too. she already knows where i put them (under the sink) so when i told her she was going to pee on the potty, she pulled them out for me.
