Easter Eggs

How do you (or did you growing up) handle Easter Eggs? Do you dye them and then the Easter Bunny hides them or does the Easter Bunny just dye and hide them? Growing up, the Easter bunny dyed and hid the eggs. We just woke up and they were hidden around the house. I'm tyring to figure out what we want to do with DS this year.  I think I'd like to dye eggs with him and then hide them when he goes to sleep.  Last year, we just hid some plastic eggs and didn't deal with dyed eggs at all.

As kids: We dyed eggs and the Easter bunny hid them.  The bunny also hid baskets and plastic eggs of change.  There were 4 kids, for everyone to get some fun hunting we needed extra eggs.

For our family: We dyed eggs and the bunny hid them.  We also did some plastic eggs, but the bunny did not hid baskets.  We just put those on the front porch.
  • We always dyed the eggs and my parents hid them.  The bunny brought the baskets and always left them by the fireplace.

  • We dyed eggs at some point before Easter, but for some reason we could never get rid of the dye just yet, there was some story about not wanting to pour it down the drain and I guess dye the inside of our pipes (oh, the horror).

On Easter morning there would be baskets waiting for us from the Easter Bunny with candy and one egg with our names on it.  There would also be a note assigning us an area of the yard where our eggs were hidden (or a room inside the house if the weather was unpleasant).  Then we ran out and found those eggs (which were different than the ones we dyed, because duh, the Easter Bunny laid them).  Also, the Easter Bunny took care of dye cup disposal.  Wasn't that nice of him?

  • We don't hide eggs. Can you imagine if you don't find one? Gross.

We hide the basket; my parents did the same thing for us. Bacon has to get up and work for her candy, yo.

  • I have never heard of hiding baskets before. Interesting.

we sometimes dyed them. i don't remember doing it very often because of the mess the dye made. no one ever hid them, though. my adults growing up were not what you would call "kid friendly".
  • We always hid our eggs outside.  Even if that it meant we had to put on our snow suits.

Bmom- my mom was fastidious about counting the real eggs.  She'd also keep a list of where she hid them.  The plastic ones didn't matter.

We never hid real eggs. in fact, as a family tradition, we never did any egg hiding at all, though there would occasionally be other events where we'd find hidden eggs.

The easter bunny just brought us baskets with candy and toys and left them on the fireplace, just like Santa.

We did dye eggs, but it was just for fun, and they would just go in the fridge and we ate them like we would any regular boiled egg.

Me too. I've already started shopping.  I got him the cutest boat for the bathtub.

Also, I cannot wait to see him eat cake for his bday.  He'll go to town.  Unlike last year, when he just picked at it and cried.  ;)
  • I'm excited for our easter baskets this year.  My MIL always gives us a giant pile of candy each year and usually cash, because she's insane.

Ditto. I bought him a really nice lined wooden basked for his first Easter and I just reuse it each year.

Aw hell, I have nothing for their baskets.  I don't even have a basket for Max.  I have nothing for M2's bday (in 11 days).

side note - conn - you know what is funny about that? no matter who we sing happy birthday too, he quietly sings happy birthday to himself thinking it's all for him. i listen to him singing, "happy birthday to me" in a whisper, and then he blows out the candles from wherever we are in the room. he's done this for about 4 other birthdays now. i love it.

    That is hilarious!

Seriously, DefConn and BabyZzilla need to meet.  They would love each other.
  • We dye the eggs with the kids and they don't even get hidden.  The Easter Bunny hides plastic eggs with candy inside.
  • We dye, Bunny hides.
  • we dyed eggs, and then they went in the fridge and were eaten.

    my mom hid our baskets.
  • I'm late to this convo but my basket would get hid when I was a kid. I didn't like eggs- so we skipped that part.

What I did with my son when he was younger is we'd dye the eggs and sticker them up then I would hide various eggs around the house containing candy, change, and a couple of hotwheels and we'd go looking together.

Now that he's older he gets a basket with shirt, summer sandals, and a note from the "easter bunny" telling him he's got so many eggs to go find. In those eggs are now 5 eggs containing $1.00 bills and just a couple candies.
