Question for pet owners

When you go to the vet, how do they describe their relationship with you? (If you even know?)

Are you their client? Customer? Or is your pet their patient? Both?

Would it make sense to say to a vet, "What would you do if your client's poodle was excessively overweight?"  If not, how would you phrase a question like that?

Not customer. Client or patient.

Also - we've always been on a pet's-first-name basis with our vets. "I'm calling to schedule Toby's annual exam." or "This is Myrtle, Toby the Beagle's mom."

So, client for the human and patient for the animal? So the poodle question is OK as currently phrased?

I like client.  Honestly, I don't like being refered to as my cat's "mom."

I  call for appointments for Keebler and Oreo.  They seem to have odd enough names no one ever gets confused.
