Excuse Me.

Are those candles sitting on snow?

Weird. There doesn't appear to be snow anywhere else.

it actually might be a granite marker.

i hope it's not -- it looks like it's taking place in a park, and if it's a national park and that's a marker, that's a federal crime.

btw, i hate those head circlets.  that's an easy way for me to know that i am going to hate every thing about thsi wedding.

do you want me to talk about that sash?  that is like exhibit A in the precedent-setting case "hmo v. oh, white people."

I would rather you explain the Christmas lights at the reception.

i can already tell that this reception is going to have some funky smells going on.

white people lesson, 1: you and i and everyone you and i know call those "christmas lights."  we know they are for outdoor use (which is why the cord is green) and that they are used from thanksgiving until new years only.
white people?  they call them "fairy lights" and hang them indoors and use them for general decor year round.  originally the domain of children and teens who like ren faires, now adults use them because they think they are magical and romantic.  sometimes adults give excuses like "they use less electricity" or other nonsense, instead of purchasing a lamp like an adult.

but they hung little stars from the light strands.  Doesn't that make it fancy?

Why does she have a pair of pajama pants hanging over her shoulder?

And if your necklace can't fit all the way over your head, find a new necklace.

I will admit that I would rather attend a basement wedding reception with Christmas lights more than without.

    H, so true.

The groom isn't white, and now I want to know how this factored into the wedding decisions.

Confession: My brother's wedding is going to involve "fairy lights." When I heard they were stocking up at Christmas, I got very worried.

extra credit: they are called "fairy lights" in the uk.  white people LOVE the uk, france, pretty much all of europe.  please note: europe generally are not that impressed with the us, mainly because of things white people do.

Go ahead and make fun, HMO.  But I will be the one laughing when that little half-white baby in your belly comes out and only stops screaming with the installation of Christmas lights over the crib.

zsa, not going to happen in my asian-themed nursery.  i plan to make a mobile of fortune cookies and cherry blossoms and hang it over the crib in celebration of tet.

I did not know about the term "fairy lights". Nor that this was a popular thing to do. This pleases me.

I've heard it, but I thought it was a term people used because they knew hanging christmas lights year round was tacky.

One of those making-fun-of-yourself type deals.

I had to talk my Mom down from christmas lights. Well, really any lights. The wedding is at 2 in the afternoon, in a room with a lot of windows. Why do we need candles/lights?

I just realized the groom wasn't white. It's like the most recently active box covered his face in shame.
