Wedding Reception Forum

menu ideas

I thought I posted, but it disappeared on me.
We are a fall wedding, with the reception being between 2 and 2:30 in the afternoon
So we are talking finger foods/sandwiches. We cannot find a caterer so doing it all on my own here!
Mini croissants with ham and turkey, italian meat pinwheels, various dips, veggies, hummus, chips, pretzels, cupcakes and cookies.

Any suggestions?

Re: menu ideas

  • I think that sounds fine.  Maybe some fruit or cheese?

I actually catered a funeral reception for 100 people this way and it turned out fine.  We had exactly what you listed along with fruit/cheese and a couple of homemade salads.  I used a signature Tom Thumb in Dallas and everything was presented beautifully on silver platters.
  • Thanks! I planned on the cheese. Wasn't sure about fruit for October wedding though.  Maybe some grapes in the middle of the cubed cheeses?
  • You posted on the food and cakes board  ;-)

I think your menu is good for an afternoon wedding.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I think it sounds great.
  • Wow, people will like it!
  • in addition I think you should also consider having a fruit tray. it's easy enough to cut up a few melons the day before and add berries or whatever is in season. in addition it's very easy to make up crostini or bruschetta. i say this becuase 1) i'm allergic to ham and 2) not a fan of pinwheels. so there's not much past that to eat that's substantial. is there any way that instead of making all of these things up that you could do more of a 'sandwich bar'? put the mini-crossants, some cocktail bread, some cold cuts and let people make their own? it might also save you some time as you dont' have to make everything.
