centerpiece conundrum

ok, so we booked our venue (yay!!) however, i was hoping for a larger room for the reception, with round tables.  its kinda a smaller room with rectangle tables.
i dont remember exactly, and i havent been back to take pictures yet, but im thinking there are about 10-12 tables, and theyre set up with one end of them all against the wall.  im also thinking this is about the best way to arrange them, since the room isnt that big.
my question is, how should i set up the centerpieces on the rectangle tables?  ive been workin on making centerpieces like the picture below for about 6 months now, so im thinking ill stick with them.  any advice on how to arrange them?

also, if anyone has any advice on how to cover the tables with something other than plastic tablecloths, that is less than $8 per table, those suggestions are welcome and appreciated as well.  :)

<div>nope, the only other room they have is smaller.  we're in LOVE with the location, and we rented the lodge next to it, so we have a private lake, an outdoor area to have the ceremony and the indoor area for the reception.  i dont so much mind the room, since we got it for such a great deal and its all private, i just cant figure out how to do my centerpieces, or tablecloths.</div>

  • ummm i say low centerpieces.  vases with 1 flower. small fishbowl type with some small lake rocks or pebbles for that rustic feel
  • Before you can decide on centerpieces, it seems to me that you need to know for sure how you are going to arrange the tables in the room.

    <div>
</div><div>im gonna keep them how they are, since it seems like thats the best way to do it, due to the long, skinny shape of the room.</div>

  • heres what i was kinda thinking.  maybe some flowers in the jars.  maybe some small votive holders in between the jars to add a little candle light and romance.

  • Sounds beautiful! Also, is there anyone at the venue you could ask what looked nice in prior weddings?
  • I like your centerpieces - I think they look rustic and lovely.  How long are the tables?  Do they put more than one end to end?

Could you just put the centerpieces down the center of the tables?

Also, does your venue rent linens?  Or your caterer?   It might be worth looking into in order to have linen tablecloth instead of plastic if that is more the look you are going for.

How about checking your local board, Craigslist or the Wedding Classifieds here to see if you could buy table covers at a discount?

Do you sew?  It might be worth checking out finding fabric on sale and just hemming to make your own.  (I'm thinking JoAnn's 40% off coupon for a cut.  It could just be a big cut!)

    Good luck with your planning!

  • thanks!

my fiance was the best man at a wedding there and they did plastic tablecloths.  i just really dont want to because everything is going to be DIY, so im trying not to cross the line into 'crappy did it yourself on a budget' territory.

i think im gonna end up putting the centerpieces down the center in a line, kind of offset from eachother, instead of in a straight line.  the venue doesnt rent linens and we're not using a caterer.

i havent thought about checking classifieds for tablecloths!  thanks for that tip!

i have a sewing machine, and im sure i could do that!  guess i should just find out if that would be more than $8-$10 per table.
