Pennsylvania-Philadelphia

unique venue south east PA

I am looking for a unique reception venue (not your typical hotel/country club) in south east PA anywhere from Philly region to about an hour or so outside of Philly. We are inviting about 300 people and the main problem I am having is that 1.) there are not many unique venues that can accommodate that number and 2.) if they can its well over $100 a person would would put our wedding way over our budget! I would love suggestions for an "off the beaten path" venue that will keep us under a reasonable budget! :)

    1) Make a new knot username that isn't your email address :\ This is a really common mistake (I made it!)...you can get a lot of spam.  2) I'm not sure what you mean by "unique".  Were getting married in three days at Normandy Farm in Blue Bell, which is a 300 year old farm that's since been converted into a hotel, conference center, and banquet hall.  The ballrooms are in what were once barns.  (That's "unique" to me, but probably not to some others.)  They're much less expensive than many places in the city, but in order to lock in the great prices we got we had to be willing to have our wedding on an off-day and off-month (a Friday in August). Hopefully there are some suggestions there, in addition to my venue, that will help :)

The Archaeology Museum at UPENN is an amazing venue.  Your rental fee may even be tax deductible.  I'm not sure about the catering costs though.  Check Mrs. Candy Corn's bio on weddingbee.

This may sound weird, but apparently by the naval yard in Philly, people are getting married at teh urban outfitters warehouse.  It looks cool and you can make the space your own.  Though i have no idea on cost.  I saw picutres on my possible photographers blog  http://cliffmautner.typepad.com/ and it looks amazing

I forget where it is, but he lists the location for each wedding on the blog -- so there maybe some a chance to see some locations all done up.

The pictures of the warehouse are beautiful! I am trying to find a contact for it online but am having a bit of difficulty. That is the exact type of unique venue I am picturing!

I know you said your not looking for a country club, but Talamore (where I'm getting married) is a unique venue and could accomodate 300 and is reasonably priced.  I also thought of William Penn Inn.  I'm not sure how many they can accomodate, but it's one of the other reasonably priced and unique venues. The warehouse sounds like a blank canvas though, so you may have additional costs, but it's totally customized!

There are a few wineries in Bucks county... my fav is the crossing vineyards outside of new hopeYou can also rent out the Franklin Institute, have the wedding on their roof and dinner in the planetarium or next big olde ben! Also the National Constitution Center carters to wedding... you can set up cocktail hour next to bronze status of the signers of Declaration of Independence. Top of the Kimmel Center.... There are some really unique places... It just depends how unique do you want to go.
I'm really bad at updating bios! To learn more about me check out my blog, http://jesandshan.blogspot.com/
