Reception Decorating Ideas if Lighting Cant be Used

Help! I got a venue that I love and was dying to have color wash and uplighting, but the light tech told me he cant do it because of the way my venue is designed. What is another alternative to make my wedding just as dazzling if I cannot use lighting?

Is it possible to use spotlighting? Our lighting people had little spotlights that fit right into the existing lights on the venue's ceiling - those then spotlit the centerpieces and really made a difference in how the reception looked. If your lighting people have something like that, perhaps they could spotlight the walls with the color you want, rather than the centerpieces?

Draping is nice, too, but that depends on the structure of the building.
