indoor or outdoor reception in winter Malibu?

We are debating between Geoffreys and Gladstone for our reception for january wedding in Malibu. Here are pros and cons. Please help me decide!!

1.Geoffrey - no privacy / outdoor with heating lamp /nicer view / no flower needed
2.Gladstone - privacy / indoor / need flower and deco

It's winter and I am worried about rain and wind on the beach.

Is Malibu going to be too cold in winter? It's day time wedding.

Thanks!

Re: indoor or outdoor reception in winter Malibu?

  • To be safe, you need to plan for indoors.  Although Geoffrey's is lovely, I wouldn't want to be there during a rainstorm.

  • The weather will still be cold, especially on the coastline, in January. Malibu also experiences lots of mud slides during the rainy season. This location, in general, is difficult due to the canyon and coastal roads used to reach it -no matter what time of year. Not to mention parking.

And then there is the question of comfort! I would most definitely choose an indoor set up for both ceremony and reception if I were planning for January. I've been to weddings in the winter months that have been held outside, and it's always miserable. Outdoor heaters only give off so much heat, and you don't want your guests fighting for position or being uncomfortable. I get cold easily and if I'm uncomfortable for an extended amount of time and there are no indoor options for relief, I'd be leaving early. Just my thoughts.

Take all of these things into consideration before you book your wedding venue(s). Think of the logistics or both you (wedding party) and your guests.

    Good Luck :)

    Anniversary
  • Geoffrey's is lovely and would be great for a wedding. But, in the winter rain is likely in Malibu!  If you don't want to stress about it, you should go to Gladstones.
