Hotel Bethlehem

I'm at the point of almost signing my contract to have my wedding here but they have some points in the contract that make me extremely uncomfortable (they can raise prices up to 30 days before) and they don't list anything they have to do for us (rather our liabilities and financial aspects). Does anyone have any experiences with them as a venue to ease my concerns? If I do end up having it there I will of course let everyone know how it goes (hopefully amazingly). Let me know your thoughts! Thanks!

I think I would run away from that contract.

I wouldn't sign, not in a million years. I made sure EVERYTHING I expected was in my contract, along with locked prices. There was no way 2 months out there will be SURPRISE and I have to start all over.

Your contract should list everything that was discussed. Ask them to add in what they are supposed to do. Also see if they can take the line out about the price increase. If they are unwilling to do that, I wouldn't sign it.

Ditto PP's.  It's a lovely venue and if I had a wedding in my hometown (near Bethlehem) it would have probably been at the top of my list.  You need to express your concerns and let them know that any reasonable person booking there would not sign that sort of contract.  Get them to put EVERYTHING in writing and then sign.  You can also ask for references -- maybe they'll give you names & contact info for brides that you can contact to get more information.  Also try the NE PA and Central PA boards.

Ditto PP. If you are uncomfortable with anything listed, point that out to them - if there is potential for an increase 30 days before, what's the percentage? And can you negotiate tihs in any way possible? Don't sign the contract & leave any questions unanswered. Anything & everything should be spelled out prior to that. It's a big commitment, both financially & personally.

I complained that I thought the clause was ridiculous and their response was to offer to lock in the prices but at a rate 10% higher. I'm so appauled by the whole situation. I can't imagine that they pull this with everybody. It is a last minute wedding too so it is not likely that the prices should be going up.

Even if it is a last min. wedding, I still wouldn't sign it stating that the price could go up.
