Father/Daughter Song

My dad passed away when I was 15 yrs old. We were very close and I have always dreamed about dancing with him at my wedding, but unfortunatley my dream is not going to come true.  I am going to be dancing with my brother, but I want to have a song that is about a father and a daughter's relationship. I don't want it to be depressing, but I still want him to be remembered.  Any suggestions?

Re: Father/Daughter Song

  • I'm sorry for your loss. Dancing with your brother is a wonderful idea. Have you heard of the song "Dance with my father" by Luther Vandross? It may sound like a father and son's relationship but It's still a wonderful song.
  • What a touching moment and tribute to your father. My favorite father/daughter song is 'Daughter' by Loudon Wainwright. It is so sweet but the music is upbeat and more lighthearted.
  • I am in the same situation as you. At every wedding my family attended while my father was still living, we danced to the song Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle.  My brother and I are now going to dance to it.  If you haven't heard it yet I highly suggest you have a box of tissue with you.
  • Thanks for the suggestions, it's such a hard decision!
  • If you're up for one that's a little faster tempo, a friend of mine danced with her father to "Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon. It's a beautiful song, and more touching and uplifting than it is sad. Here's the YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhT0Pydv4JQAnd a link to the lyrics on the Paul Simon Web site: http://www.paulsimon.com/node/66
  • I am sorry for your loss. I too lost my dad, and wanted a special way to include him. I have chosen Luther Vandross-Dance with My Father Again. This song says everything that I want to say. I'm sure for you, as it will be for me, a very hard dance to do. I have opted to dance with my brother as well. The song is sad but in a good way. If you haven't listened to it I would highly recommend it. My heart goes out to you on this. I am so happy to be getting married to the man who completes me, however the thought of my dad not being there crushes me. Just remember always that your dad will be there, smiling down on you! Best wishes to you as you begin your new life! I hope in some small way this helps you.
