Colours vs style..

Our wedding is going to be in February 2011, at this inn:http://www.elmhurstinn.com/. The ballroom is decorated in all shades of white, with dark antique chandeliers. It will be a morning ceremony and brunch reception.Until now, I'd been planning on using white, ice blue and chocolate brown. I love the winter wonderland 'theme', but the more I think about it, the more I think those colour choices are rather modern and might not fit with my overall vision for the wedding. When I think of brown and blue I picture clean lines and minimalism. On the other hand, all of the dresses that I love are ivory or champagne lace, and birdcage veils are growing on me as well. I was also drawn to the venue partially for its age and character. Because of this, I'm thinking that perhaps I should be considering less 'winter wonderland' and more classic vintage, with a colour scheme of different whites and brown, for example. For decor colours I love ice blue and brown, but I also love vintage lace and old Hollywood glamour, and they don't seem to mesh. Does that make sense? What do you think? Do I have to choose one side of this, or is there a way to seamlessly combine everything?lol.. I must be tired, maybe I'm just really overthinking this!

  • Wait until next year to decide on a color scheme.

  • Yes, you are over-thinking.And really, until you're getting to the point where your vendors are requiring you to pick colors, you really don't need to actually pick your colors. You'd be surprise, you might actually change your mind between now and next year. Lots of women start out with certain colors in mind and then as they start getting new ideas and seeing different things, they wind up changing everything. Just like how there's women that have an "exact" vision of what their wedding dress will be ... and then end up with a completely different "dream dress".

  • You're right, I likely will start changing my mind, but I feel like I do need to choose something now. We're on a budget, so ideally I'll be hitting the post-christmas winter sales this season for the decorative stuff.. I would also like to sort it out so that my STDs match everything else..

  • There's no reason you can't do both, really.  I think blue and brown are totally compatible with classic vintage, as long as they're used somewhat sparingly.Since the holidays are coming up, start watching as many old Christmas movies as you can get your hands on, and do some research into older Christmas traditions.  A vintage winter wonderland is totally doable.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Good call on the old Christmas movies!
