Tablecloths ..

My father passed away last year, so we are actually currently helping my mother out, financially .. as well as trying to pay for this entire wedding ourselves.. It's ridiculous. Tablecloths and chair covers are seeming to be my biggest issue. I've looked on a few wedding 'recycle' websites and haven't had any luck yet. :'(

I want to just get a huge roll of cloth and cut it and make them my tablecloths.. LOL.. Renting them for $6 here is insane when I could by them for $7-8 online and then re-sell them. What to you gals suggest?

Re: Tablecloths ..

  • Ok, I know this sounds really bad, but bare with me because I think it's going to work out great. We are also on a tight budget and, although I want everything to look nice, we plan on spending the bigest ammount of it on our honeymoon instead of trying to impress people at the reception. I found white plastic table cloths at Wal- Mart 2 for $1.00 and I found a roll of brown butcher paper on-line for $25.00. My plan is to use the cheap plastic table cloths with the brown paper as a runner down the middle. I purchased a really neat stincle and am going to spong paint a boarder on the paper and cut the ends in a rounded design. I think with the drinks before hand, my georgous centerpieces, and the low lighting, no one will notice or care that my table cloths are .50 each. Hope this helps and good luck!

  • I am using painters drop cloths. You can paint a runner on them as seen in Martha Stewart Magazine. http://www.marthastewart.com/905062/nautical-themed-party-decor
  • Chair covers are COMPLETELY unneccessary, so you can skip those entirely.  I know you probably think the chairs are ugly, but honestly, do you remember the chairs at the last wedding you went to?  Probably not, because once people are sitting in them, nobody notices or cares what the chairs look like.  Plus, chair covers look kinda funny.

As for tablecloths, you can try to make them yourself, or buy from a discount website and resell them.  You might even look on your local wedding board to see if anyone near you is selling THEIRS that you can buy for a discount (then re-sell afterwards).

Also, if you haven't already, please check out the budget brides board.  They have TONS of awesome ideas.

  • I am not buying/renting chair covers because like the girl above said, they are unneccessary.  The chairs for my venue are not the cutest, but who cares! Nobody will be paying attention. Only us brides notice these details - anyways, I ordered my table cloths from a website only and I bought them for the same price it was to rent them where I live. They seem to be good quality. I would recommend looking online. It might end up being stressful to make your own. Especially since you are on a tight budget & will probably be doing other DIY projects...
