summer colors???

I am wondering if the color scheme I have chosen is appropriate for my summer wedding. I want black and white with accents of eggplant. My mom is giving me a hard time saying they are not summer colors.

 

Also, is it okay to rely on candles instead of flowers as centerpieces during the summer months?

You can use whatever you want. Mother Nature is not that nitpicky about colors since dark colors are found in nature year round.

Candles are fine if that is what you want. It's your and fiance's wedding, not hers or anyone else's.

You can use whatever colors you love.

We got married in August and had black, white/ivory, and red.  Pics in bio.

Candles are great for centerpieces, especially if you're having an evening reception.  We did half the tables with candles and half with floral centerpieces. 

Go to Google and just start doing some picture research to ease your mind.  Go to Google Images and do different searches like purple wedding, eggplant wedding, plum wedding and things like candle centerpieces, or candle reception centerpieces.  You'll find tons and tons of ideas.
